Outdoor Transmitter Enclosure suits broadcast applications.

October 20, 2009 - Resistant to weather and temperature, KGO880 lets network operators who want to provide mobile reception or close coverage gaps set up transmitters outside fixed transmitting stations. It supports integration of all company's proprietary transmitters in low- to medium-power range and can achieve optimal output power of 1,400 W. Measuring 1.9 x 0.7 x 1.0 m, outdoor solution has backup exciter design that prevents transmission failures.

Compact Solution from Rohde & Schwarz for Efficient Outdoor Use of Transmitters

Munich, October 14, 2009 - When protected by the new R&S KGO880 outdoor housing, broadcasting transmitters from Rohde & Schwarz become all-in-one solutions for efficient outdoor deployment. Network operators who want to provide fast, comprehensive mobile reception or close coverage gaps can now set up transmitters outside fixed transmitting stations.

Since the outdoor solution is largely independent of the existing infrastructure, it can be installed quickly even at undeveloped locations. Weather- and temperature-resistant, the R&S KGO880 outdoor housing protects transmitters against extreme climatic conditions. All Rohde & Schwarz transmitters in the low- to medium-power range can be integrated. Due to their compactness, the transmitters of the extremely energy-efficient R&S SCx8000 family are perfectly suited for installation in the new housing. With these transmitters, the outdoor solution achieves the highest output power of 1400 W.

Depending on the integrated transmitter, the outdoor solution is equally suitable for digital and analog broadcasting networks. With the right climate-control system, it withstands temperatures from -30°C to +55°C. The maximum cooling power is 3.5 kW.

In addition to the standard version, an especially robust steel version provides increased protection against salt water or vandalism. Since the outdoor solution is virtually turnkey on delivery, on-site installation requires minimum effort. Thanks to its convenient dimensions of max. 1.9 m x 0.7 m x 1.0 m (H x W x D), it can be transported without much logistical effort.

The new housing and the R&S SCx8000 low- to medium-power transmitter make an ideal combination. In its power class, this transmitter/housing combination is the most compact and efficient outdoor TV solution on the market. The R&S SCx8000 was developed specifically with an eye toward digital TV standards such as ATSC, ATSC Mobile DTV, DVB-T, DVB-H and MediaFLO(TM), but is also well suited for analog TV. For ATSC and ATSC Mobile DTV, it covers a power range from 300 W to 900 W, for DVB-T, DVB-H and MediaFLO(TM) from 200 W to 600 W, and for analog TV from 500 W to 1400 W.

The transmitter's compact size is a result of its large-scale integration (LSI) design and innovative redundancy concepts. The backup exciter design prevents transmission failures. It features only two exciters and no higher-level transmitter control unit, which saves both cost and space. The transmitter's high efficiency and low energy consumption add to its advantages.

The lowest power range for TV and digital audio broadcasting is covered by the R&S SLx8000 transmitters and the R&S XLx8000 transposers. The compact R&S SR8000 family is excellent for FM applications and its transmitters and transposers can also be integrated into the housing.

The R&S KGO880 outdoor housing will be available from Rohde & Schwarz as of November 2009.
