Power Amplifier enables concurrent 2G/3G signal broadcast..

October 20, 2009 - Deployed as part of base station setup, WCDMA/GSM mixed mode Multi-Carrier Power Amplifier (MCPA) Tower Bottom Solution (TBS) delivers features such as mixed-code and multi-carrier compatibility that increase number of carriers per cell site without additional requirements for cables and antennas. It eliminates requirement for multiple Single-Carrier Power Amplifiers, reducing overall Base Transceiver Station power consumption and failure rates of active modules.

Comba Launches Multi-Carrier Tower Bottom Solution

Signs Supply Agreement With Major Wireless Operator in North America After Successful Field Trials and Laboratory Evaluations

Mixed Mode MCPA Tower Bottom Solution Enables Simultaneous Broadcast of 2G and 3G Signal from Single Base Station

HONG KONG, Oct. 14 -- Comba Telecom Systems Holdings Limited ("Comba" or the "Group", Hong Kong Stock code: 2342), a leading wireless enhancement solutions provider, announced the commercial availability of its WCDMA/GSM mixed mode Multi-Carrier Power Amplifier ("MCPA") Tower Bottom Solution ("TBS") for the North America and global market.

At the same time, Comba announced it has signed a materials and services agreement with a leading US wireless operator for the supply of the MCPA TBS. This agreement was reached after extensive field and laboratory tests by the operator where the MCPA TBS was deployed in mixed mode applications. Under such conditions, Comba's solution successfully broadcast GSM and WCDMA signals simultaneously to meet key criterion for approval.

Deployed as part of a base station setup, Comba's MCPA TBS allows operators to optimize their network capital expenditure ("CAPEX") and operating expenditure ("OPEX") for new and existing cell sites. The solution helps to address the network infrastructure challenges facing many wireless operators. With features such as mixed-code and multi-carrier compatibility, operators installing the MCPA TBS can realize network CAPEX efficiencies by increasing the number of carriers per cell site without additional requirements for cables and antennas, thus freeing link budget to increase cell site coverage. With high power MCPAs as an integral part of the MCPA TBS, the requirement for multiple Single-Carrier Power Amplifiers (SCPAs) are eliminated, thus reducing overall Base Transceiver Station ("BTS") power consumption and also failure rates of active modules to achieve lowered OPEX. The MCPA TBS is designed to be easily scalable and facilitates network upgrades to WCDMA and next generation network technologies.

Mr. Simon Yeung, Executive Director and Senior Vice President said, "We are delighted to bring the MCPA TBS to the North American market. Featuring one of the industry's most advanced Doherty MCPAs and feed-forward applications deployed in a TBS, the benefits of deploying this solution is manifold -- for example, the cost-saving aspects and effective capacity expansion presents a compelling solution for operators to more efficiently utilize their network CAPEX. In addition, the MCPA TBS is configurable for a number of frequencies, thereby allowing for easy upgrades to WCDMA and next generation network standards."

Mr. Yeung further added, "We are also delighted to have signed the frame agreement with the US wireless operator after successfully completing the field trials. This is a positive proof of the performance and value that Comba's MCPA TBS solution brings to the customer. This agreement represents an important milestone for us in North America. We have long supported the local market and the MCPA TBS is a home grown solution from our Research & Development center in California -- the fact that one of our potential major customers for this is a US operator is very encouraging."

MCPA TBS key features
-- Supports up to 60MHz bandwidth with high linearity and efficiency MCPA technology
-- Compatible with mixed modulation (GSM, EDGE, CDMA2000 1xEv-DO, WCDMA)
-- High output power up to 160W per MCPA for enhancing BTS coverage
-- Modular design and different configurations such as N+1, 4x4, 4x2, that support up to 3 sectors and provides various output power
-- Supports external BTS alarm with voltage-free dry contacts
-- Integrated bias tee which provides DC power to Tower Mounted Amplifier
-- Graphical User Interface (GUI) with local and remote monitoring via PC browser
-- Diagnosis/maintenance with Ethernet port
-- Suitable for indoor and outdoor deployment with appropriate rack/cabinet designs
