A10 Networks Expands AX Series Family with New High Performance 64-Bit Appliances

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 14 / / - A10 Networks(TM), the technology leader in Application Delivery Controllers (ADCs), today announced five new 64-bit models in its AX Series family, designed to provide Application Delivery and Server Load Balancing functionality for medium to large enterprises, web sites and ISPs/carriers. Running on A10's new 64-bit Advanced Core Operating System (ACOS) architecture, the new models extend the AX Series family with increased scalability, delivering high performance ranging from 10 Gbps to 40 Gbps throughput in the most compact, energy efficient platforms.

The new AX models continue A10's tradition of including all features and maximum performance without additional software license fees to reduce CAPEX costs. Each of the new AX models employs "green" features to reduce power consumption, such as efficient airflow and Solid-state Drives (SSD), which also further enhance system reliability and performance. Significantly, the new AX models run the new 64-bit ACOS, which unleashes each processing thread from the 32-bit OS 4-GB addressable memory limit, enhancing performance and available resources for unprecedented scalability.

Medium Web Sites and Enterprises: Scalability with Headroom to Grow

The AX 2500 and AX 2600 are entry-level, compact 1U 64-bit Application Delivery platforms designed for medium enterprises to support high performance application traffic; and integrate advanced Layer 4 to 7 features and security. The AX 2500 delivers 10 Gbps throughput and 300k Layer 4 connections per second (CPS) with eight Gigabit Copper ports and four Gigabit Fiber ports. The AX 2600 delivers 18 Gbps throughput and 355k Layer 4 CPS. The AX 2600 provides maximum flexibility with three different port configurations: 24 Gigabit Copper ports, 24 Gigabit Fiber ports or a combination of 16 Gigabit Copper ports with eight Gigabit Fiber ports. The AX 2500 and AX 2600 include redundant power supplies (RPS), removable smart fans and onboard hardware SSL acceleration.

Large Web Sites and Enterprises: Energy Efficient Platform for 10-Gbps+ Deployments

The AX 3000 is a compact 1U 64-bit platform designed for large enterprises running multiple enterprise applications, seeking high density deployments, or requiring multi-vendor data center consolidation. It delivers 22 Gbps throughput and 440k Layer 4 CPS. The AX 3000 comes in two different port configurations: one with 16 Gigabit Copper ports and four 10-Gigabit Fiber ports; and one with eight Gigabit Copper ports, eight Gigabit Fiber ports and four 10-Gigabit Fiber ports. The AX 3000 includes RPS, removable smart fans and onboard hardware SSL acceleration.

Largest Web Sites, Carriers/ISPs and Enterprises: Faster, Better and Greener than Chassis Systems

The AX 5100 is a compact 2U 64-bit platform designed for the world's largest enterprises and ISPs/carriers, enabling extremely high performance content delivery for millions of concurrent users. It delivers 40 Gbps throughput, 2 million Layer 4 CPS, eight 10-Gigabit Fiber ports, and four Gigabit Fiber ports. The AX 5200, the world's fastest ADC, which was unveiled at Interop Las Vegas 2009, delivers 40 Gbps throughput, 3 million Layer 4 CPS, 16 x 10-Gigabit Fiber ports and four Gigabit Fiber ports. The AX 5200 features the highest density 10-Gb port count of any ADC shipping today, included by default. Another highlight for both models is the Parallel Flexible Traffic ASIC technology (PFTA), which utilizes 4 x FTA for superior performance, including hardware-based Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection at 0% additional CPU utilization.

The AX 5100 and AX 5200 supercomputer class ADC platforms deliver 2 to 3 times the performance for 1/3 the power and space of competing chassis solutions, reducing per connection costs by 80%. Both models include RPS and removable smart fans. The AX 5100 and AX 5200 represent the fastest two models currently shipping from any ADC vendor.

High Performance Extensible Platform

"The expanded AX Series platforms set a new milestone of innovation in the application delivery market with the industry's first 64-bit Operating System: ACOS," said Lee Chen, founder and CEO of A10 Networks. "Enterprises, web sites and carriers of all sizes will receive unparalleled scalability, performance and efficiency for data center application deployments. The new 64-bit AX Series models deliver upon A10's mission to provide faster, better and greener solutions. The new AX models deliver the lowest cost per connection, and best performance per watt in the industry."

All AX Series models come standard with features for Layer 4-7 application acceleration and server load balancing, global server load balancing, advanced Layer 7 scripting, virtualization, IPv4 & IPv6, aXAPI REST based API, advanced NAT options, and security features including the new DNS Application Firewall. All models include carrier-grade hardware components, RPS and SSD. All features and maximum performance are included without additional licensing fees, continuing the AX Series' popular value proposition of "twice the performance, at half the price" of competing solutions.

"The 64-bit line of appliances from A10 Networks unlock the full potential of 64-bit processing, by removing the memory and processing limitations imposed by 32-bit systems," said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst for Enterprise Strategy Group. "The scalability of 64-bit provides A10 a key advantage in the Supercomputer Application Delivery Controller category with the ability to process data exponentially faster. This can not only bolster end-to-end application performance but also help to reduce operating costs. In this economy, CEOs, CIOs, and CFOs alike will welcome these benefits."

Availability

The AX 2500, AX 2600 and AX 5200 models are available immediately. The AX 3000 and AX 5100 will be available November 1, 2009. All existing AX Series models will continue to be available without any plans to discontinue.
