Motion Extends its Mobile Point of Care Offering with a New Line of Motion Clinical Workstations

Intelligent battery management provides up to 15 hours of battery life, while flexible configurations streamline access to patient information across hospital environments

AUSTIN, TX- August 19, 2009 - Motion Computing®, a leading provider of integrated mobile computing solutions, announced today a new line of Motion Clinical Workstations (MCW). Highly flexible and fully integrated, the MCWs are designed specifically to support a broad range of clinical workflows. Motion® developed the MCWs as a complement to existing healthcare offerings that combine industry-leading technologies with specialized services to streamline access to patient information at the bedside.

New Offerings Built On Experience in Mobile Point of Care Solutions
Motion, the developer of the C5, the industry's first mobile clinical assistant (MCA) for point of care computing, developed the MCWs based on a unique perspective garnered from working closely with healthcare organizations over eight years. Completely integrated, the MCWs are supported by Motion, easing the burden on internal IT staff that often must contact multiple vendors to support or upgrade existing computer carts.

"With the introduction of the C5, Motion established itself as a leader in the rapidly evolving market for mobile point of care computing devices", said Marc Holland, managing director of System Research Services. "While the C5 is well-suited to many point of care workflows, no single form factor is suited to all. With its latest point of care solutions Motion again sets itself apart with a comprehensive and flexible set of offerings that allow hospitals to obtain a family of solutions from a single source that they can optimally match to each unique workflow to help improve the delivery of patient care."

Multiple Options Support A Variety of Workflows and Environments
MCWs provide clinicians and hospital IT staff with a broad range of solutions that are highly configurable and designed to fit into almost any hospital environment. Motion's most advanced workstation, the MCW-200, offers numerous computing options to support an extensive range of clinical workflows. It can be configured with the Motion C5 or J3400, a small form factor PC, laptop, thin client or a combination of the available devices.

With an innovative power management system that helps to maximize efficient power use for extended battery life, the MCW-200 offers up to 15 hours of use when configured with the C5*. It also features a dedicated charging system for rapid charging and a detailed battery status indicator, helping clinicians focus on patient care, not battery management. The MCW-200 has been tested and is compliant with the UL 60601-1 standard to ensure conformity with biomedical safety standards.

In addition to the fully-powered MCW-200, Motion is launching two additional workstations that offer even more options. The MCW-100, which can be configured with either the Motion J3400 or C5, offers multiple storage options making it easy to upgrade with added features. With independent height adjustability, the MCW-100 and MCW-200 support a variety of different workflows, users and environments. The MCW-50, a lightweight, highly maneuverable workstation, is ideally suited for task specific workflows.

"This new line of MCWs is an extension of Motion's healthcare expertise and focus on developing complete solutions for mobile clinicians," said Mike Stinson, vice president of marketing for Motion. "We worked closely with leaders in the healthcare community to deliver a clinician-focused offering with sophisticated features that ensure usability, flexibility and reliability for complex healthcare environments."

Mobility Solutions to Ensure Successful Deployments
Each MCW is available with a broad range of planning and support services that will help to ensure a successful mobile point of care deployment. Through pre implementation, go-live, and deployment optimization, Motion Mobility Solutions help to ensure successful deployments by taking a variety of factors into account, including wireless infrastructure, training requirements, electronic medical record (EMR) applications and the entire hospital environment.
