Programmable Pulse Generator delivers 5 ppb stability.

October 12, 2009 - Model PB-5 NIM Pulser offers 5 ppb stability over temperature changes, allowing end users to test the linearity and stability of demanding circuits. Included front end software utility, PB-5 WinControl, expands functionality and test options for laboratory users, allowing them to concurrently control up to 8 pulse generators to synchronize outputs or test multiple systems. Also, numerous settings may be stored and recalled in computer to accelerate test process.

Programmable Precision Pulse Generator End User Software Utility

The most precise pulse generator on the market, the Model PB-5 NIM Pulser, is manufactured by Berkeley Nucleonics.

The Model PB-5 offers 5 ppb stability over temperature changes, allowing end users to test the linearity and stability of the most demanding circuits. The company has developed a new front end utility, called PB-5 WinControl, which expands the functionality and test options for the laboratory user. Control up to 8 pulse generators at the same time to synchronize outputs or test multiple systems.

Nuclear circuits such as Pulse Height Analyzers (PHA) and Multi-Channel Analyzers (MCA) require a stable pulse generator to simulate a wide range of test conditions. However, the linearity specification is limited by the fluctuations in the amplitude domain by the pulse generator. With the ability to store and recall numerous settings in a computer, the test process is expedited.

Testing applications often require a variety of setups. With the PB-5 WinControl, we can develop a complete set of tests and store them locally.

The test is repeatable and efficient, without the need for front panel manipulation. , remarks John Yee, Application Manager and Design Engineer.

PB-5 WinControl is written with a simple GUI to allow for a variety of commonly used numerical notations. The status of multiple units may be viewed in the same application window. The software is compatible with user scripts.

About the Company
Berkeley Nucleonics was founded in 1963. The company offers a wide range of signal generator and measurement instruments. In recent years the company has added a line of general purpose test equipment which combine high performance features and low price. Berkeley Nucleoncs designs have routinely been recognized by industry reviews, including the EDN s Best of Both Worlds and Cahners Top 10 Innovative Products of the Year. The company has focused R&D efforts in recent years on providing high value, lower cost instruments for test and measurement and nuclear research applications. The Model PB-5 is the latest in a line of NIM Pulse Generators used for nuclear spectroscopy instrumentation development.
