AVX Miniature 0201 Transguard® Series MLV Provides 100pF Capacitance Value

0201 Transguard® is the industry's smallest, fastest circuit protection device...

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (October 6, 2009) - AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer
of advanced passive components and interconnect solutions, has developed a 100pF
offering of its miniature 0201 TransGuard® Series multilayer varistor (MLV) that offers
space savings and design flexibility by decreasing the chip count on printed circuit boards.

Providing protection to sensitive circuits from over-voltage conditions caused by ESD,
lightning, NEMP and inductive switching, the unique construction of the ultra-compact
100pF 0201 TransGuard Series enables dual functionality - clamping transients and
filtering EMI in one device.

The highly-reliable MLV also features the ability to withstand up to 1000 strikes at
8kV contact with a sub-1nS response time for ESD events and a leakage current of <5µA at rated voltage. Providing a 5.6V rating in an 0201 case size, the miniature bi-directional transient voltage suppressor provides minimal signal distortion and low insertion loss.

"As the smallest ESD protection device on the market with the fastest response
time to ESD strikes, our 0201 TransGuard Series is a cost-effective MLV that provides
superior protection while meeting PCB space restraints." said Sonja Brown, global
product manager for circuit protection products at AVX. "AVX's broad offering of circuit protection devices includes application specific devices, such as the TransGuard Series, in addition to customized devices designed meet specific customer requirements."

The TransGuard 0201 multilayer varistors are ideal for handheld devices, including
cell phones and PDAs, as well as embedded components such as hearing aids and camera
modules.

The 0201 TransGuard Series MLV includes 15pF, 33pF and 50pF capacitance
devices in addition to the new 100pF version.

Typical pricing ranges from $0.005-$0.024 for standard commercial product
depending on volume with a lead time of stock to eight weeks.

For more information about the 0201 TransGuard Series MLV, contact AVX at 801
17th Avenue South, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 29578; by calling 843-448-9411; by fax at 843-444-2864; or on the Web at www.avx.com.
