Vertical Machining Centers combine speed and precision.
October 7, 2009 -
Powered by 15-30 hp spindle motors, metal-cutting DNM series is available in 3 sizes - each as standard or high-speed (DNM HS) versions - and holds 5.40 roundness and Ra 0.12 roughness under adverse conditions. Metal removal rates range from 26.4 in.³/min when face milling SM45C carbon steel to 42.2 in.³ for GC25 gray casting and 109 in.³ for AL6061 aluminum. Heavily-ribbed, one-piece bed remains stable while cutting, and fine-grain Meehanite cast iron provides vibration absorption.
West Caldwell, NJ - Doosan's new family of DNM vertical machining centers combine speed and economy with the metal-cutting power that's long been synonymous with the Doosan name. These new machines are available in three sizes, with each size available as the DNM standard speed or as the high speed DNM HS.
Powering the DNM are spindle motors ranging from 15 to 30 Hp, enabling the DNM to do in a single pass what many others do in three or more. Under test conditions, the DNM removes 26.4 inch3/min when face milling SM45C carbon steel, 42.2 in3 for GC25 gray casting, and 109 in3 for AL6061 aluminum.
The heavily-ribbed, one-piece bed remains stable under the heaviest cutting conditions. Fine-grain Meehanite cast iron provides superior vibration absorption and thermal stability. The table is fully supported by the saddle in all positions, with no table overhang. All axes have highly precise linear motion guide ways. Add a "Big Plus" tooling system with dual contact between the machine spindle face and the tool holder flange, the DNM holds 5.40 roundness and Ra 0.12 roughness under the toughest cutting conditions.
For speed, spindle rpm in the standard models top out at 8,000 rpm (12,000 optional), with the high speed versions reaching 15,000 rpm (20,000 optional). High speed spindles are driven by a powerful, built-in motor generating up to 123 ft. lbs torque. Linear motion guide ways and high speed servomotors produce rapid traverses of 1,890 ipm along all three axes of the DNM HS, and 1,717 ipm along the X and Y axis and 1,181 ipm Z axis of the standard. Tool-to-tool time in the machines' 30 tool capacity ATC (40 tool optional) is a quick 1.3 seconds.
The DNM's broad selection of options includes automatic tool length and work piece measurement, hinge type, scraper type or drum filter type chip conveyors and chip bucket, oil skimmer, minimum quantity lubrication, through-the-spindle-coolant system, and more.
Doosan DNM vertical machining centers are available in three sizes: the DNM 400 with a 36.2" x 17.1" table; the DNM 500 with a 47.2" x 21.3" table; and the DNM 650 with a 51.2" x 26.4" table. Each is available as standard speed with a Fanuc 0i controller, or as high speed with a Fanuc 32i controller.
