Developed to grip OD of 9 in. dia helical gears, Pitch Line features pins mounted in loose fitting housing so they can float. Pins pick up pitch diameter, and jaws grip OD of pins. Because pitch is measured over pins, gripping is performed in same manner as measuring. Models include through-hole, high-speed, and quick-change chucks, available in SAE or metric sizes from 3-18 in. (76-457 mm) with accuracies from 0.001-0.00001 in.

Shown is a Northfield model 1000 (10in. diameter chuck) with two "pin cages" one for a left hand helix and one for a right hand helix. The pin cages are changed out by removing (3) mounting screws
