NEW! The Next Generation of ODM Machines: Sticker(TM) XXL & Smasher(TM) XXL

Casing-in and building-in machines produce 'library-quality' hard cover books from wallet to tabloid size.

ODM Sticker(TM) XXL (casing-in) and Smasher(TM) XXL (building-in) machines are simple to operate, self-adjusting and require no make-ready. The Sticker(TM) XXL and Smasher(TM) XXL have been re-engineered to produce 'library-quality' hard cover books from wallet-size up to tabloid size covers. Cost-effective bookbinding machine can produce 100 to 300 covers per hour. ODM machines are ideal for entry-level hard cover bookbinding production. ODM machines work seamlessly with the Casemaking XXL System(TM). CE approved.

Sticker(TM) XXL (minimum size: 4" x 4" x 1/32"; maximum: 18" x 18" x 4") features an easy-to-use control panel, a roller glue station for rounded and backed books, a three-position blade height control and removable glue stations for fast and easy clean up. Optional extra paste attachment (for additional adhesive in the joint area) is available. The operation of the Sticker(TM) XXL consists of placing the book on the wing while the machine is in the home position. After the book is loaded, the operator depresses a foot switch that drops the wing below the glue rollers. A servomotor brings the two glue stations in contact with the book while the wing travels upward, applying a uniform coating of adhesive to the end papers. As the book emerges from the glue pots the operator places the cover in position with a handy cover guide and removes the book from the wing.

The operator places the cased-in book in the Smasher(TM) XXL (minimum size: 4" x 4" x 1/32"; maximum: 18" x 18" x 4") into the Smasher(TM) XXL and depresses a foot pedal that brings the top joint iron in contact with the book. This enables the operator to accurately find the joint area of the book. After locating the joint area, dual buttons are depressed that activate the hydraulic system that raises the bottom steel platen and clamps the book with 10 tons of pressure. The heated joint irons aid in forming the joint by reactivating the adhesive in the joint area and softening hard cover materials such as library buckram and film laminates. The Smasher(TM) XXL has an adjustable dwell timer that controls how long the book remains under pressure. The heated joint irons have a thermostat for varying the degree of temperature.
