Beckhoff Announces New Energy-Saving C6915 IPC with Intel® Atom(TM) Processor

MINNEAPOLIS, September 15, 2009 - In order to provide dynamic Industrial PCs that are as energy-efficient as they are powerful, Beckhoff Automation has introduced the new C6915 series IPCs. Featuring Intel® Atom(TM) processors, the C6915 IPCs provide up to 1.6 GHz processing power with dramatically reduced energy consumption.
The C6915 is currently the most compact Beckhoff IPC available, measuring only 47 x 157 x 116 mm/1.9" x 6.1" x 4.6" (W x H x D). Because of the low processor power dissipation of Atom(TM) processors, Beckhoff Industrial PCs can now be even more compact and moderately priced.
The C6915 adds more scalability to the award-winning C69xx control cabinet PC series, which is available in different performance classes ranging from Intel® Celeron® M ULV 1.0 GHz (C6925) to Core(TM)2 Duo 2.16 GHz (C6920). When Industrial PCs from this series are paired with a Beckhoff Control Panel with DVI and USB connection or an Ethernet Control Panel, they become a high-performance centralized control platform for machine builders and plant engineering applications - especially when used in conjunction with Beckhoff's TwinCAT® automation software. Due to its two independent Ethernet interfaces, the C6915 is also ideally suited as a compact central processing unit for an EtherCAT® control system.
The space-saving aluminum housing of the C6915 Industrial PC is equipped with a 3½-inch Beckhoff motherboard for 1.1 GHz or 1.6 GHz Intel® Atom(TM) processors. Passive cooling is achieved through the PC's aluminum surface and enables operation at temperatures up to 55 °C (131 °F). The basic, solid state configuration of the C6915 features a flash disk, resulting in a controller with no moving parts that requires no fan. Optionally, a hard disk or a second Compact Flash card can be integrated.
The C6915 has a free Mini PCI slot for a Beckhoff Mini PCI Fieldbus Card or an extra Ethernet card. This requires a Compact Flash card as the storage medium. If the device is equipped with two Compact Flash cards or a hard disk, the Mini PCI slot can only be used for NOVRAM cards.
