Central Maintenance and Welding, Inc. Expands Engineering Division
September 1, 2009 (Lithia, Florida) - To provide even more comprehensive services for customers, Central Maintenance and Welding, Inc. (CMW) has expanded the scope and competencies of their Engineering Division ("Central Engineering"). Serving multiple industries including chemical processing, mining, and power generation, Central Engineering has resources to assist with major capital projects and more routine plant maintenance engineering jobs. Additionally, Central Engineering can work with an owner's technology provider to integrate new and existing equipment/processes.
With expertise in Mechanical, Electrical/Controls, Process/Chemical, and Structural/Civil engineering disciplines, Central Engineering's services include:
Feasibility Studies/Estimates
Front-End Engineering
Trouble-Shooting
Stress/Fatigue Analysis
Detailed Engineering/Design
Procurement
Project Management
Start-Up/Commissioning
In terms of technology platforms or resources, the Central Engineering team utilizes the following key tools for clients:
AutoCAD 2D
AutoDesk Inventor 3D
Tekla 3D Structural Detailing
Algor FEA (for stress and fatigue analysis)
STAAD Structural Design
COMPRESS ASME Vessel Design
ETank API Tank Design
3D Plant Design
Relevant to potential project delivery methods, all the above resources can be engaged by clients in two different starting forms:
The first is the traditional Design-Bid-Build method wherein Central Engineering can provide the front-end engineering, cost estimates, detailed engineering, and bid packages. The client will then receive construction proposals from various contractors.
The second is the Design-Build Method where CMW performs the entire Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) functions thus providing the client with a true turn-key solution.
According to Chris Pearson, Director of Engineering, "From the customer's point of view, the advantages of engineering combined with construction (i.e. our Design-Build Method) include one source responsibility; early identification of constructability issues; time savings; cost savings; and avoidance of engineering and construction disputes on projects. This could be the optimal solution path for major capital projects."
