Dow Corning Introduces New Syl-Off® Brand Solvent-Free Silicone Release Coating System for Filmic Applications

MIDLAND, MICHIGAN, USA: Dow Corning Corporation has developed an innovative new Syl-Off solvent-free silicone release coating system that delivers long-term anchorage on unprimed polyester.

The system includes a base coating, an anchorage additive, a choice of crosslinkers and a platinum catalyst:

o Syl-Off® SL 9106 Coating

o Syl-Off® SL 9176 Anchorage Additive

o Syl-Off® 7689 Crosslinker or Syl-Off® 7028 Crosslinker

o Syl-Off® 4000 Catalyst

This system's unique base coating/anchorage additive combination offers excellent adhesion to both primed and unprimed polyester films. Applications that benefit from this feature include filmic pressure sensitive laminate and labelstock, single and double-sided industrial polyester release films, and release liners for polyester technical adhesive tapes.

"This system is very robust," said Christian Velasquez, Dow Corning Paper Industry Global Marketing Manager. "The Syl-Off SL 9106 Coating System demonstrates excellent long-term adhesion to unprimed polyester even under high temperature, high humidity storage conditions."

A lower-cost alternative to ultraviolet (UV) cure systems, the new Syl-Off system uses proven, cost-effective thermal-cure technology. And the system's excellent bath stability gives manufacturers more processing flexibility with less potential for waste.

Release is naturally low at slow peel speed with a flat release profile, but a wide range of release force values can be achieved when the system is combined with Syl-Off® 9156 Release Modifier. Release stability against both solvent and a wide range of water-based acrylic adhesives is excellent.

The Syl-Off SL 9176 Anchorage Additive component is also useful for achieving robust anchorage in coatings for polyethylene, polypropylene and paper substrates as well as demonstrating benefit in fluorosilicone and PSA primer applications.
