Developed and qualified for harsh industrial environments
Nuremberg, Germany - July 22, 2009 - MEN Mikro Elektronik turns the future into the present. The new single-board computer F19P is the first Intel CPU board on the market which is based on the CompactPCI PlusIO standard. The additional serial functions on the J2 rear I/O connector even now make this SBC developed according to PICMG 2.30 more flexible and versatile than ever.
The first step has been done - CompactPCI PlusIO paves the way into the future.
MEN's F19P is the first of a completely new generation of 3U single-board computers. It is the first CompactPCI PlusIO SBC with Intel architecture on the market.
Based on the known CompactPCI (PICMG 2.0), CompactPCI PlusIO (PICMG 2.30) delivers the migration path to the new serial CompactPCI Plus standard (PICMG CPLUS.0) and can be used both in traditional CompactPCI systems and in hybrid systems with CompactPCI Plus.
Equipped with Intel's Core 2 Duo SP9300 down to the Celeron M722 and with a power dissipation between 5.5 and 25 Watts, the 32-bit/33-MHz SBC was especially developed for embedded applications with high requirements regarding performance, reliability and low power dissipation.
The F19P offers a multitude of I/O. According to the PICMG 2.30 standard four USB 2.0, four fast SATA/SAS, four PCI Express x1 links as well as one Gigabit Ethernet are available via the J2 rear I/O connector. In addition, the F19P supports seven PCI Express x1 links for fast communication, three for onboard Ethernet and four x1 or one x4 links via rear I/O or a special side card.
The F19P is backwards compatible to the SBC family F14 to F18: Graphics via VGA, two Gigabit Ethernet and two USB 2.0 are available on the board front. Additional functions like digital video inputs via DVI, a multitude of UARTs, USBs, SATA or HD audio can be used via the connection of special extension cards.
Being equipped with the new fast DDR3 DRAM which is soldered against shock and vibration, with a robust CompactFlash and a MicroSD card, the SBC offers nearly unlimited space for application data.
Different watchdogs for monitoring the processor and board temperature complete the functionality of the F19P, which is shipped with board support packages for Windows, Linux and VxWorks. Equipped with special components of the Intel Embedded Line, the F19P has a guaranteed minimum availability of 7 years.
Robust design for harsh environments
Thanks to the graphics controller integrated in the GS45, the F19P is especially suited for applications with high graphics performance requirements, but also as a monitoring or control computer or for testing or measuring purposes.
With its specially developed heat sink and the soldered components to meet shock and vibration requirements it can also be integrated into mobile applications. In addition all components are prepared for coating against dust and humidity.
Migration from CompactPCI to CompactPCI Plus
CompactPCI Plus is based on CompactPCI, an established standard for building cost-effective, reliable industrial computers. Today's users appreciate the modularity, robustness and economic efficiency of CompactPCI. CompactPCI Plus is going to offer all these advantages plus fast serial data transfer .
PICMG 2.30 CompactPCI PlusIO constitutes the migration path between CompactPCI Plus (PICMG CPLUS.0) and the basic CompactPCI standard PICMG 2.0. The basic standard is complemented by PICMG 2.30. This extension defines the J2 pin assignment and introduces at the same time a new, 100% compatible connector, which is also suited for transmission of high frequencies. For this, only a few additional ground signals are required, so that a high number of interfaces can be led to the backplane. The parallel PCI bus is not changed but is limited to a data bus width of 32 bits. PICMG 2.30 can be used for both single and double Eurocards. A board which supports CompactPCI PlusIO remains 100% compatible to the CompactPCI standard, so that it can be used without limitations in existing systems. The high-speed connector is also 100% compatible.
MEN Mikro Elektronik - Profile and Mission
Since its foundation in 1982 our company designs and manufactures failure-safe computer boards and systems for extreme environmental conditions in industrial and safety-critical embedded applications. Our mission is to provide innovative solutions while maximizing reliability and flexibility.
With over 200 employees and subsidiaries in France and the USA we have an annual revenue of around 30 million Euros with an export share of about 50%. Customized solutions make for more than half of our revenue. In addition the standard product range includes far more than 100 different computer boards with Intel® and PowerPC® with the corresponding BIOS, BSP and driver software, manifold I/O boards and completely configured systems based on:
ESMexpress®, ESMini(TM) and ESM(TM) Computer-On- Modules
3U and 6U CompactPCI®, CompactPCI® Express and VMEbus
PMC, XMC and M-Modules(TM) as system-independent mezzanine I/O standards
Rugged Ethernet switches and MIPIOS® system components
The consistent use of FPGA technology gives us high flexibility when configuring customized and standard products.
Our products are used worldwide as control, measuring, test or simulation computers in all kinds of embedded applications. These comprise extremely safety-critical markets such as railways, including buses and commercial vehicles, aerospace technology or the medical industry, but also mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, telecommunications and the automotive industry. Computer systems in such applications are in operation up to 24 hours every day and often need to be available for 10 years and longer. Ideally no failures must occur to avoid costly downtimes of machines or danger to human life.
We are certified to EN 9100:2003 (aerospace), IRIS (railway), ISO 9001:2000 (quality management) and ISO 14001:2005 (environmental management) in order to meet the severe quality requirements in critical applications and to offer our customers the highest quality in products and services while considering environmental protection and occupational safety on the basis of a recognized quality management system.
Our aim is to constantly improve and to provide the highest technology and innovation level. Our business ethics is determined by the principles of the United Nations' Global Compact Initiative (human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption).
