Portwell Launches New Desktop Fanless Network Appliance Based on Latest Cavium OCTEON CN50XX Processor

FREMONT, CALIF. -August 11, 2009-In response to the growing need by SIs, OEMs and software developers in the network appliance market to meet the demands of increased rich voice, video and data traffic, American Portwell Technology, Inc., (http://www.portwell.com) has launched CAM-0100, a new desktop fanless network appliance. Essentially a complete Small Office/Home Office (SOHO) Office-in-a-Box appliance, CAM-0100 provides a high price/performance capability by harnessing the power of the Cavium OCTEON CN5010 (single core)/CN5020 (dual core) Secure Communication Processor (SCP) with built-in security function.

The new CAM-0100 supports DDR2 SODIMM 400/533/667 up to 1GB; two RGMII RJ45 GbE ports and four RJ45 GbE switch ports for SOHO network requirements; data protection via one bypass segment for fail-over option; one Mini-PCI socket for a wireless access point card; and one Compact Flash socket and one SATA interface.

American Portwell Technology is a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the Network Security market, and a member of the Intel® Embedded and Communications Alliance (Intel ECA). At a compact 8.27"(W) x 5.85"(D) x 1.73"(H), the CAM-0100 is a 1U height A5-size platform that is perfectly positioned for SIs, OEMs and software developers designing and implementing edge networking security applications such as network intrusion prevention/detection, spyware control, content filter, P2P control, instant message recording for SOHO and remote satellite office, plus medical DICOM and PACS, industrial control and automation, and PCI Data Security Standard (DSS).

Complete SOHO Office-in-a-Box Appliance
"We chose the Cavium OCTEON CN5020/CN5010 processor technology because it provides the benefits our customers have come to expect from Portwell," confirms Mark Huang, American Portwell Technology's product marketing manager. "In the case of the CAM-0100, a scalable solution with leading performance per dollar and performance per watt for next generation high-performance triple-play gateways. When working with our CAM-0100, the OCTEON CN5020/CN5010 processors provide an integrated 128KB L2 cache, QoS, TCP, packet and security co-processing in hardware with a rich set of interfaces such as multiple Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, PCI and USB 2.0 among others."

Unparalleled Solution
According to Frank Shen, American Portwell Technology's product marketing director, partnering the CAM-0100 appliance with the OCTEON technology provides advanced features, competitive price points and lower power consumption. "It all adds up to an unparalleled solution for the rapidly growing high bandwidth broadband deployment that's taking place in North America and around the world," Shen states.

"For example, home gateways need to process triple play traffic with stringent QoS requirements and support Internet Protocol Security (IPsec) and WiFi functionality along with carrier class VoIP and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services," Shen explains. "With two GbE ports plus four GbE switch ports, CAM-0100 meets most SOHO networking needs. It's open Mini-PCI card interface supports wireless access point security and its compact, fanless design make it an excellent choice for retail and medical clinic/physician office environments."

"All in all," Shen concludes, "the CAM-0100 is perfect for small packet performance for voice/video and data networks."
