Digital Isolators have 4-channel, compact design.

August 14, 2009 - Supplied in 5 x 6 mm QSOP, iCoupler® ADuM744x series can isolate 4 channels of data and power. Products are available in various configurations with multiple channel-direction options and 1-25 Mbps data-rate options. Operating from 3.0-5.5 V supply, they can reduce board space by as much as 70% and incorporate input glitch filter that protects against extraneous noise disturbances. Suitable applications include those that need only up to 1 kV rms isolation.

Analog Devices Introduces the Industry's Smallest Four-Channel Digital Isolators

- New iCoupler® digital isolation products provide a 1-kV rms isolation rating, reduce board space up to 70 percent, and cut costs by 20 percent.

Norwood, MA (07/15/2009) - Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal-processing applications, announced today the industry's smallest four-channel digital isolators. Housed in a small, 5 mm x 6 mm, QSOP (quarter-size small outline package), ADI's ADuM744x digital isolators can isolate four channels of data and power, while reducing board space up to 70 percent and cutting costs by 20 percent. This is especially effective for those applications that need only up to a 1-kV rms isolation rating and for cost-sensitive designs for which small size is more critical than isolation requirements. The new devices expand ADI's selection of iCoupler® digital isolation technology products, which includes 2.5-kV rms and 5-kV rms isolation rated offerings, giving customers the broadest and best choice of digital isolator options than any other supplier in the industry.

About the ADuM744x Digital Isolators
The ADuM744x family of digital isolators, comprised of the ADuM7440, ADuM7441, and ADuM7442, is available in a variety of configurations with multiple channel-direction options and data-rate options ranging from 1 Mbps (megabits per second) to 25 Mbps. The devices offer a 3.0-V to 5.5-V supply voltage range, which provides compatibility with lower voltage systems and enables voltage translation across the isolation barrier. The ADuM744x digital isolators offer very low power consumption while providing low pulse-width distortion. Each product also features an input glitch filter to protect against extraneous noise disturbances. Designed specifically for size and cost savings, the ADuM744x offerings are not simply de-rated versions of existing products as are competing 1-kV rms digital isolators. iCoupler Technology and the Introduction of 1-kV rms Isolation
With almost 300 million channels deployed, ADI's proven iCoupler technology is based on chip-scale transformers, rather than the LEDs and photodiodes found in optocouplers. Transformers support higher data rates, consume less power, and are more stable over life as compared to LEDs and photodiodes. By fabricating the transformers directly on-chip using wafer-level processing, iCoupler channels can be integrated with each other and other semiconductor functions at low cost. iCoupler transformers with 2.5-kV rms or greater isolation ratings employ a 20-µm layer of high-breakdown polyimide. In contrast, the new 1-kV rms isolation rated products use a lower cost, thinner, SiO2 insulator that has limited isolation capability compared to the 20-µm thick polyimide insulator.
