New Coherent Green Laser Lowers Cost of Ti: Sapphire Pumping

Santa Clara, Calif., June 2, 2009 - Coherent Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) has launched the Verdi(TM) G5, a lower cost 5 Watt green (532 nm) pump laser based on Coherent's optically pumped semiconductor laser (OPSL) technology. The new Verdi G5 provides the same power, same low noise (<0.03% rms), and high quality, single-spatial mode (M2 <1.1) output as earlier 5 Watt Verdi lasers based on DPSS technology, but with a 50% smaller footprint and a lower price. This combination makes it an ideal source for pumping ultrafast and CW Titanium:Sapphire lasers.

Powered by Coherent's renowned AAA(TM) diodes, with field proven reliability of more than 20,000 hrs, and built on Coherent's PermAlign(TM) solder-down manufacturing platform, the Verdi G5 delivers high reliability and the lowest cost of ownership. The result is a Verdi G5 that is backed by a 2 years/10,000hrs warranty.

With an installed base of nearly 20,000 lasers including the Sapphire(TM) and Genesis(TM) platforms, Coherent's OPSL technology is the technology of choice in life sciences, medical and display applications due to its reliability, power scalability and broad range of available wavelengths. OPSL technology at the 5W power level has also been field-proven as an integrated pump source in Coherent's ultrafast lasers such as the MantisTM.

Founded in 1966, Coherent, Inc. is a Russell 2000 Index company and a world leader in providing laser-based solutions to the commercial and scientific research markets. Please direct any questions to Brandon Morioka, product line manager, at (408) 764-4373.
