Suppression Devices protect high-speed data ports.

July 16, 2009 - Designed for compliance with IEC61000-4-2, ESD/ESDU Series is comprised of transient suppression chips with 8 KV protection level for direct contact and 15 KV for air. Chip array versions of above devices, ESA/ESAU Series, come in 0603 x 4 chip array size, while ESD/ESDU Series is available in 0402 and 0603 chip sizes. All circuit protection devices employ air gap technology that achieves 0.2-0.05 capacitance and response time below 1 msec.

High Speed Suppression Chip and Array Family Employs Unique Air Gap Technology to Achieve Low Capacitance

RALEIGH, NC (July 7, 2009) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. announced the release of two new circuit protection devices designed for compliance with IEC61000-4-2. The ESD / ESDU Series are high speed and ultra high-speed transient suppression chips with an 8KV protection level for direct contact and 15KV for air. The ESA / ESAU Series are chip array versions of these suppression devices. Both series employ a unique air gap technology that achieves the lowest possible capacitance, thereby reducing response time significantly. These products are ideal for protection of high speed data ports such as USB 2.0 and HDMI.

With the proliferation of these two types of connections, this product line significantly expands Stackpole's current circuit protection portfolio.

The ESD / ESDU Series is available in 0402 and 0603 chip sizes and in operating voltages from 3.3 volts up to 25 volts. Trigger voltages are 150 volts and 250 volts and clamping voltages are typically 17 volts and 25 volts. The ESA / ESAU Series is available in the most popular chip array size, the 0603 by four and has the same operating, trigger, and clamping voltages as the ESD / ESDU Series. Both parts offer extremely low leakage currents of less than 1 nA and response times of well below 1 millisecond, due to the inherent low capacitance. The ESD and ESA products have a typical capacitance of 0.2 pF while the ESDU and ESAU products have typical capacitances around 0.05 pF. Both products are designed to withstand in excess of 1000 pulses with outstanding reliability and repeatability.

These series are ideal choices for USB 2.0 and IEEE1394 port protection for notebook PC's, cell phones, PDA's, digital cameras, printers, scanners, plasma display panels, HDTV's, LCD displays and monitors and any other device with high speed data ports.

These two series are available in standard 7 inch reels and are RoHS compliant. Pricing varies with size and clamping voltage and ranges from $0.03 to $0.06 for the ESD / ESDU in full reel quantities and $0.20 to $0.25 for the ESA / ESAU in full reel quantities. Contact Stackpole for volume pricing.
