Battery Assembly Equipment from Automation EZ LLC Addresses Renewable Energy Market

We've designed and built a complete and very flexible Battery Assembly cell, now we would like you to become familiar with it.

Tucson, AZ, June 12, 2009 - To address the opportunities and challenges presented by renewable energy initiatives, Automation EZ has designed a highly flexible battery assembly cell for the R&D environment that is capable of manufacturing small to medium production volumes. Depending on your application, round cells, stack prismatic, or wound prismatic, we can provide you with all of the necessary assembly equipment.

The assembly cell was designed to accommodate quick product change over, in process quality checks, and with fixtures that keep mistake proofing in mind.

Recognizing that not one solution fits all assembly challenges, Automation EZ(TM) offers clients several alternatives to meet their battery product assembly requirements. We can provide you with a Complete Assembly Cell or Individual Automated Semi-Automated battery assembly substations. We are also capable of providing custom made equipment to fit our customer's needs.

Our product line consists of an automatic tab welding machine, a cell winding machine; a jelly roll insert-bottom, tab weld, seam former; an electrolyte fill, cap weld cell closer; a cell label shrink wrap; and also a cell pressure and leak tester.

The main innovation of the Automatic Tab Welding Machine is that it was designed to place multiple tabs at different distances per cell. Having the ability to place multiple tabs could allow the use of a thinner substrate, leaving more room in the cell for active materials.

All tension controls, the number of tabs, and placement of tabs and web speeds to optimize throughput can be adjusted from the touch screen with no need for manual setups, providing a very quick change over. The machine has a powder coated, welded steel tubular frame and adjustable leveling feet. All fixtures and wear items are made of hardened tool steel.

Depending on your application, the cell winder is capable of winding round or prismatic cells at the rate of 3-12 parts per minute. Among the innovations is that it is flexible enough to handle up to 5 tabs per cell at various distances. All tension controls, web speeds, separator cut lengths, and pack roller pressure is adjustable to optimize cell design parameters and can be stored as recipes for quick retrieval from the touch screen. The machine has a powder coated, welded steel tubular frame and adjustable leveling feet. All fixtures and wear items are made of hardened tool steel.

The first test of the Cell Pressure and Leak Tester pressurizes the cell to a preset value and increases pressure at a preset amount on a preset schedule, monitoring for a leak. The second test increments pressure at a preset interval until the can seal fails. The system will then log these values and shut down. Parameters that can be set include: test pressure, test time, increment pressure, and increment time. Data collected will be transferred in Excel format to a predefined drive on the network and include: leak pressure, time, temperature(s) and burst pressure. Other items can be added as needed.
