Multichannel Devices support T1, E1, and J1 data rates.

June 24, 2009 - For high-density line cards in advanced networking and EoPDH platforms, XRT83VL38 and XRT86VX38 employ R³ (Reconfigurable, Relayless Redundancy) Technology(TM). As fully integrated long-haul and short-haul line interface unit (LIU), XRT83VL38 provides selectable or programmable transmit pulse shaper for flexibility with any T1/E1 circuit. Framer/LIU combo, XRT86VX38, operates at 1.544 or 2.048 Mbit/s for DS1/E1/J1 and incorporates buffering as well as hardware-based messaging support.

Exar Adds Highly Integrated T1/E1/J1 Eight-Channel Devices to Communications Portfolio

Next Generation Long Haul/Short Haul Transceiver and Framer/LIU Combination Offer Small Packaging and Low Power - Ideal for High Density Platforms

FREMONT, Calif., June 15 -- Exar Corporation (NASDAQ:EXAR) has released two next generation eight-channel communications devices. The XRT83VL38 is a fully integrated Long-Haul and Short-Haul transceiver, and the XRT86VX38 is a Framer/Line Interface Unit combo (LIU). Both devices support T1/E1/J1 data rates and are available now. These solutions offer Exar's R(3) Technology(TM) (Reconfigurable, Relayless Redundancy) as well as low power and a small footprint ideal for high-density line cards for advanced networking and EoPDH platforms including multiplexers, switches, routers, digital cross connects and wireless backhaul systems.

"Telecommunication service providers continue to build-out the communications infrastructure, specifically the 3G/4G wireless backhaul networks, to meet rapidly rising demand," said John Williams, vice president of Exar's Datacom and Storage business unit. "These highly integrated solutions enable high-density, cost effective solutions for backhaul over existing copper networks to meet the needs of the evolving infrastructure."

Key Features

The XRT83VL38 is a fully integrated octal (eight channel) long-haul and short-haul line interface unit (LIU) for T1, E1, or J1 applications. B8ZS, HDB3 and AMI encoding and decoding functions are supported. The transmitter provides a selectable or a programmable transmit pulse shaper for flexibility with any type of T1 or E1 circuit. Optimal performance is achieved via two on-chip crystal-less jitter attenuators and adaptive receive equalizers. A variety of loop-back and diagnostic features support in-circuit fault isolation and help reduce development time.

The XRT86VX38 is an octal 1.544 Mbit/s or 2.048 Mbit/s DS1/E1/J1 universal integrated framer and LIU solution compliant to ANSI/ITU_T specifications. This framer/LIU combo provides many features for enhanced messaging and testability. The physical interface has Exar's optimized R(3) functionality providing reconfigurablility with a choice of internal impedance, and relayless hot swap protection with redundancy circuits. The framer function provides finer granularity to monitor DS-0 timeslots. The device also has performance enhancing features including increased buffering, and hardware based messaging support for bit-oriented or packet-oriented network messaging protocols.

Exar's R(3) Technology

Exar's R(3) Technology(TM) - Reconfigurable, Relayless Redundancy - delivers key benefits to OEMs designing T1/E1/J1 interface cards. The devices are Reconfigurable with integrated termination supporting all common T1/E1/J1 line impedances enabling customers to build one board with a single bill-of-materials. The devices employ Relayless Redundancy to eliminate the need for external relays in 1:1 and 1+1 configurations by establishing a back-up channel that can be brought on-line in the event of failure.

Pricing, Packages, Availability and Additional Information

Samples of the XRT83VL38 are available now. Offered in a RoHS compliant 255-pin BGA package over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range, the XRT83VL38 is priced at $18.08 in 1K piece quantities. Samples of the XRT86VX38 are available now. Offered in a RoHS compliant 256/329-pin BGA packages over the -40,ºC to +85,ºC temperature range, the XRT86VX38 is priced at $30.08 in 1K piece quantities.
