Compressus Delivers Imaging Productivity & Efficiency Improvements in Next Generation MEDxConnect(TM) Workflow Management Solution
Proven Interoperability Solution Expands Integrations to Address Radiology Connectivity: Includes Hologic, Kodak Carestream, Intergy RIS, Cloverleaf, Meditech RIS, McKesson, PowerScribe and Visage Imaging
CHARLOTTE, N.C., June 4 -- Healthcare IT workflow management pioneer Compressus, Inc., today introduced the next generation of its comprehensive suite of Enterprise digital imaging and data management systems software solutions. Featuring continued productivity and workflow efficiency enhancements, the release of MEDxConnect(TM) System version 2.6 was announced here at 26th Annual Meeting of the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), June 4-7, 2009.
Building on more than three years in clinical practice with a proven ability to improve productivity by up to 30 percent, the new MEDxConnect release focuses on additional productivity and efficiency enhancements. The latest version also features a dramatic expansion of Compressus' already industry-leading portfolio of integrations with workstations, VR, HIS/RIS, PACS and other data information systems to connect and communicate across the Enterprise. Since adding full integrations with GE Centricity PACS and Philips iSite in the previous release, the latest MEDxConnect version includes new integrations with McKesson, Hologic, Cloverleaf, Kodak Carestream, Sage Intergy RIS, Meditech RIS, PowerScribe 5.0 and Visage Imaging.
"Despite the laborious national discussions about healthcare IT, the concept of connectivity or interoperability is not esoteric in radiology and diagnostic imaging. The ability for physicians to have complete and immediate access to all existing patient information and prior exams, can make the difference in their ability to provide high quality patient care in a timely fashion," said Janine Broda, chief marketing officer, Compressus. "It is discouraging that while imaging represents one of the greatest sources of connectivity issues within a healthcare Enterprise, it has not been designated to receive any stimulus assistance. As a result, hospitals and physicians have to work even harder in finding interoperability solutions to operate more efficiently and provide the highest quality patient care.
"This documented lack of interoperability between existing healthcare information and imaging systems is one of reasons Compressus pioneered the concept of workflow management solutions, or interoperability, to the market more than three years ago. Today, our proven solutions are helping hospitals and medical practices around the country improve productivity and efficiency by 15 to 30 percent, while improving patient care and optimizing existing technology investments," Broda added.
The latest release focuses on workflow efficiency and user experience improvements designed to optimize physician productivity and self reliance without clerical support. Clerical staff reductions can have a major impact on the hospitals ability to keep their costs in check and the reduction of manual data entry not only results in additional efficiency gains, but removes data integrity issues. Incorporating ongoing user feedback, the new version enables more customization than ever before. Now users can create personalized Worklist, Reporting and Practice tools to optimize the entire exam review process for a streamlined operational process and improved report editing and delivery. Enhanced study distribution algorithms can be utilized to optimize physician workload across the Enterprise. For example, sub-specialization can be optimized while providing the end user the ability to pull exams from other reading centers with the simple click of a mouse to help balance workloads when volumes vacillate. Radiology groups also benefit from enhanced report editing features including sign-off from multiple disparate VR and transcription systems from a single screen.
According to Broda, Compressus will also launch a robust interoperability ROI tool at the SIIM meeting. "Without stimulus funds, radiology service providers have to achieve connectivity and interoperability in a phased approach and with as much of their existing technology as possible. Not that forklift solutions were ever truly appropriate or successful, sites simply cannot afford to replace components to have all of their PACS, RIS or other systems from a single vendor. The MEDxConnect workflow management tools are a middleware solution enabling sites to achieve success and leverage current resources. The new ROI package is designed to help facilities determine what kind of an impact they can expect from an interoperability project in terms of increased efficiency or revenue."
The MEDxConnect System acts as a communications hub to create a virtual, unified worklist common to all connected users, enabling various health information systems to connect and communicate across the Enterprise. Utilizing HL7, DICOM, and other standards, the System helps control the flow of images, reports, messages, standard patient demographics and other important data for diagnosis and treatment planning of a patient between otherwise independent and disparate systems. Designed to enable physicians to read from anywhere, automatically pre-fetch prior exams and patient information, and efficiently transmit images and cases between sites for consults or workload balancing, the MEDxConnect generates significant workflow improvements and results in faster and more accurate reports and better patient care.
