Exalt Announces EX-s Series Gigabit Ethernet Microwave Radio Systems with New ETSI Platform Designed for IP/LTE Migration

Systems feature Exalt's unique capacity aggregation and offer high capacity native TDM and native Ethernet transport in fully software configurable, upgradeable 1RU package

CAMPBELL, Calif., 2 June 2009 - Exalt Communications, the company that is reinventing microwave backhaul, today announced the EX-s Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) family of carrier-class, split-mount microwave radio systems for the 7 to 40 GHz ITU/ETSI bands. These point-to-point systems offer mobile operators and enterprises new levels of backhaul upgrade flexibility and functionality, enabling smooth, low-cost TDM to IP migration and supporting mobile network evolution from 3G to HSPA/4G/LTE.

The EX-s GigE systems offer capacities from 20 Mbps to 365 Mbps per carrier, and feature hitless and errorless adaptive coding and modulation to maximize spectrum utilization and availability over any given channel bandwidth and under changing environmental conditions. The EX-s GigE radios also support Exalt's unique multi-radio, multi-band, capacity aggregation, enabling up to four systems in any band combination, licensed or license-exempt, to deliver up to 1 Gbps full-duplex throughput over a single Gigabit Ethernet port.

"Exalt first appeared in the microwave backhaul market three years ago and since then has established an impressive foothold in North America," said Richard Webb, Directing Analyst - WiMAX, Microwave, and Mobile Devices - Infonetics Research. "Exalt is one of the few companies offering both a licensed and license-exempt portfolio and is now expanding globally with its new point-to-point microwave systems for the ITU/ETSI bands. Their all in-house approach to microwave technology is unique and has enabled Exalt to expand its product line and customer base very quickly. This is a company to watch."

Featuring native TDM and native Gigabit Ethernet transport for HSPA/4G/LTE migration, Exalt EX-s GigE systems also include an integrated Gigabit Ethernet switch, automatic transmit power control (ATPC), built-in E1 cross-connect, built-in spectrum analyzer, AES encryption, QoS, VLAN and secure management. The IDUs are fully software configurable and provide both PDH and SDH capacities up to 2xSTM-1 in a streamlined 1RU form factor that eliminates the need for additional hardware modules.

"Unparalleled subscriber demand for delivery of bandwidth-intensive content coupled with the necessary 3G to HSPA/4G/LTE migration is forcing mobile operators to significantly upgrade their backhaul capacities in all major European markets," said Amir Zoufonoun, CEO of Exalt Communications. "However, the raw cost of backhaul per subscriber must remain low. Our new EX-s Series GigE radio systems offer a robust and highly flexible migration path with a full suite of integrated features that allow customers to future-proof their networks while reducing CapEx and OpEx costs for a rapid return on investment."

All Exalt radio systems - licensed and license-exempt - are carrier-class systems offering guaranteed link availability, guaranteed throughput and low, constant latency. Systems are available in frequencies from 2 to 40 GHz and in capacities up to 1000 Mbps, providing a range of options to fit countless network applications. Designed to enable a smooth transition to IP, they offer native support for both TDM and Ethernet, and are fully software configurable and upgradeable. For easy and secure management using third-party network management systems, Exalt systems support SNMP v1, v2c and v3. Data security is provided by available FIPS-197 compliant AES 128-bit and 256-bit encryption that adds zero latency to the transmission. To simplify installation and maintenance, all Exalt systems feature an embedded user manual and most include a built-in spectrum analyzer.

Exalt EX-s GigE microwave radio systems are available immediately. For more information, please contact www.exaltcom.com.
