LPDDR BGA Probe works with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers.
June 10, 2009 -
Low-power double data rate (LPDDR) BGA probes provide signal access points for LPDDR and mobile-DDR synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) in electrical, timing, and protocol characterization applications. Respectively supporting x16 and x32 SDRAM packages, W2637A and W2638A BGA probes feature embedded resistors that provide signal isolation. Both serve as probing solutions at LPDDR and mobile-DDR BGA package ballout.
Agilent Technologies Unveils Industry's First LPDDR BGA Probe Solution for Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers
SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 28, 2009 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the industry's first low-power double data rate (LPDDR) ball grid array (BGA) probe solution for oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. The LPDDR BGA probe provides signal access points for LPDDR and mobile-DDR synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) for electrical, timing and protocol characterization. It is an ideal probing solution at the LPDDR and mobile-DDR BGA package ballout, which is defined by the Joint Electronic Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) in the JESD209A LPDDR SDRAM standard.
Agilent's LPDDR BGA probe supports two SDRAM package sizes. The W2637A BGA probe supports the x16 SDRAM package, and the W2638A BGA probe supports the x32 SDRAM package. Embedded resistors in the LPDDR BGA probe provide good signal isolation between the signals on the system and the loading effect of oscilloscope and logic analyzer probes. Both probes are compatible with 0.8-mm ball-pitch SDRAM packages.
The LPDDR BGA probe is used with Agilent's E5384A and E5826A cables to connect to a logic analyzer. The probe can also be connected to an oscilloscope using the E2678A InfiniiMax socket probe head through the W2639A LPDDR scope adapter board that can be attached to the LPDDR BGA probe. The InfiniiMax socket probe head can be easily socketed to the access pins on the LPDDR scope probe adapter. The W2639A LPDDR scope adapter board is also compatible with the W2630A Series DDR2 BGA probes.
"The LPDDR BGA probe gives engineers access to the signals they need to test, and it also provides high signal-integrity performance and protocol validation for memory buses," said Perry Keller, member of the board of directors of JEDEC and Memory Program manager at Agilent's Digital Test Division. "We are ready with the probing solutions and comprehensive test suites our customers need for making automated measurements to ensure their products are compliant with JEDEC specifications."
Recently, Agilent's DDR2 and DDR3 BGA probes were named the winner of Test and Measurement World's 2009 Best Test Accessories and Interconnects of the Year award. The LPDDR BGA probe now adds to Agilent's list of unique DDR probing solutions. Using the LPDDR BGA probe with the U7233A DDR and LPDDR compliance test application for oscilloscopes, engineers can improve their productivity, maximize their design margins and gain greater insights into their system's performance.

U.S. Pricing and Availability
The U.S. list price for the W2637A, W2638A and W2639A LPDDR BGA probe and scope adapter board starts at $500. The LPDDR BGA probe adapter is now available.
