Newport Launches New Fiber Laser for Industrial Machining

  • Alliant(TM) Fiber Laser Delivers Intense Brightness for Precision Applications

Mountain View, CA - May 28, 2009 - Newport Corporation's Spectra-Physics Lasers Division introduces its first industrial fiber laser product, the Alliant(TM) Fiber Laser. Developed with Newport's extensive experience in diode laser and fiber technology, this rugged and compact 100W infrared laser features high single-mode beam quality and wall-plug efficiency that delivers maximum power at the smallest focused spot, or high brightness. The new fiber laser's intense brightness is ideal for high precision industrial machining applications such as precision cutting, spot and seam welding, and metal sintering.

"Our OEMs and industrial system integrators have asked us to leverage the Newport Spectra-Physics expertise and vertical structure into a reliable fiber laser product," said Scott White, Senior Manager of Product Marketing for Newport's Spectra-Physics Lasers Division. "We are excited to commence production of the Alliant 100W as our first in a series of fiber laser products to meet our customers' high expectations."

The Spectra-Physics Alliant Fiber Laser features flexible power control for continuous wave (CW) to modulated operating mode for application-specific requirements. The Alliant is based on the company's industry-leading ProLite® Xt high brightness laser diodes which offer exceptional reliability, brightness and power. Extensively tested for 24/7 operation, the new fiber laser is designed for reliable and long-lifetime operation in rigorous, industrial environments. Packaged in a rugged, rack-mount enclosure, the laser is designed for easy integration into industrial systems.

The Alliant Fiber Laser will be on display at the Newport Spectra-Physics Booth #101 in Hall C1 at Laser World of Photonics, June 15-18, 2009 in Munich Germany.
