Hobart Brothers' Metal-Cored Wire Improves Weld Quality on HSLA Steels

-Useable for quenched and tempered steels (including T-1, HY-80 and HY-100)
-Produces virtually spatter-free welds
-Offers tensile strength up to 128,000 psi (with 90 percent Argon/10 percent CO2)

TROY, Ohio. May 20, 2009-As part of its premier Tri-Mark® brand of welding wires, Hobart Brothers offers its Metalloy® 110 gas-shielded metal-cored wire. Designed specifically for welding high-strength, low-alloy steels, including A514 (T-1), HY-80 and HY-100, the Metalloy 110 wire meet the requirements of AWS classification E110C-K4 and offers a tensile strength up to 128,000 psi and yield strengths up to 115,700 psi. It can also be used for fabrication and repair of welding castings, heavy equipment, shipbuilding projects, and other similar high strength applications.

Like other Hobart Brothers' metal-cored wires, Metalloy 110 wire creates welds that are virtually free of spatter and silicon islands, helping to improve weld quality and minimize cleanup. The wire also offers excellent wetting action and penetration, along with the ability to bridge part gaps without burn-through.

Using 75 to 90 percent Argon/ CO2 shielding gas mixture, Metalloy 110 provides excellent impact values (CVN or Charpy V-notch) at temperatures as low as -60 degrees Fahrenheit (-51 degrees Celsius).

Welding operators can use Metalloy 110 for flat, horizontal and vertical down welds when welding in a CV spray transfer mode, or for all-position welding using a power source with pulse or short arc capabilities. The wire is suitable for single- or multi-pass applications and is available in .045-, .052-, and 1/16-in. diameters.
