NC4 Announces ActivWeather Enhancement to Its External Situational Awareness Solution Powered by WeatherBug

Partnership between NC4 and WeatherBug feeds real-time weather data into NC4's External Situational Awareness solution at no additional cost to users

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., May 5 -- NC4, Inc., (www.nc4.us), the leader in situational awareness, incident monitoring, crisis management, and secure collaboration, today announced a significant weather reporting enhancement to its External Situational Awareness Solution (ESA). The new enhancement, ActivWeather, is a meteorological reporting tool which integrates real-time weather data to provide detailed, customized, and comprehensive alerts that further enhance situational awareness.

ActivWeather content is made possible through a recent partnership with WeatherBug(R), the leading provider of live, local weather information services. WeatherBug manages and operates a proprietary network of more than 8,000 weather stations and 2,000 cameras located throughout the U.S. and parts of Canada. These professional-grade weather stations record 27 different weather variables updated every two seconds to generate accurate and timely neighborhood-level reports that are unmatched by any other weather provider. The combination of NC4 and WeatherBug technologies provides a powerful capability that helps to enhance situational awareness.

"It is critical for emergency managers and other first responders to have reliable and precise weather information while responding to severe weather events and other emergencies which can be impacted by the weather," said Jim Anderson, Director of Business Development at WeatherBug. "The integration of ActivWeather data provided by WeatherBug into ESA incident reports will provide the level of visibility required for split second decision-making to help protect lives and secure property."

Tim Cooper, Business Continuity Manager at First Horizon National Corporation, recently experienced the power of ActivWeather during severe thunderstorms in Tennessee. "The ActivWeather alerts provided the information I needed to make early, informed decisions which in turn helped to mitigate risk. ActivWeather provides the type of local level weather alerts we need to make good decisions--when to execute our business continuity plans or to reroute a travelling executive. Furthermore, these alerts make me weather smart."

In addition to weather reports, ESA provides real-time incident reports on transportation, hazmat, law enforcement, fire, terrorism and other incidents that may impact business continuity and employee safety. By enhancing our weather capabilities, customers can now profile National Weather Service weather types such as flash floods, dust storms, severe thunderstorm warnings, tropical storm warnings and even volcano and high surf warnings. ActivWeather also utilizes data collected from the WeatherBug sensors to deliver alerts for high wind gusts and high rainfall rates. This granular level of detail allows users to obtain targeted information that affects their profiled location.
