Victrex Introduces Victrex® ST(TM) Polymer

A new polymer offering customers improved performance in demanding temperature environments

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA, USA - (May 4, 2009) - Victrex Polymer Solutions, a division of Victrex plc and leading provider of high performance polyketones including VICTREX® PEEK(TM) polymer, VICOTE® Coatings and APTIV(TM) films, has introduced a new proprietary range of products: VICTREX® ST(TM) polymer.

This innovative new product line is part of the VICTREX PEEK product family and is designed to perform in the most demanding environments, specifically in applications requiring a combination of high temperature, mechanical performance and dimensional stability. The new polymer launches with two grades: VICTREX ST STG45 polymer (an unfilled grade) and VICTREX ST ST45GL30 polymer (a glass-filled grade).

Technology Director, Dr. John Grasmeder, says, "We developed VICTREX ST polymer to meet customers' expressed needs for a high performance material with improved mechanical performance at higher temperatures while maintaining the properties of purity, electrical resistance, chemical resistance, dimensional stability and low permeability/moistures of VICTREX PEEK polymer.

When compared to other unfilled/unreinforced polymers, VICTREX STG45 has improved mechanical performance especially in the temperature range from 150°C (302°F) to 200°C (392°F). VICTREX ST45GL30 features a heat distortion temperature of 380°C (716°F) and therefore opens up new application opportunities for customers who work at temperatures over 300°C (572°F).

This combination of benefits provide Victrex customers another choice when placing applications in demanding temperature environments such as those found in the oil and gas, electronics or automotive industry. Equipment or parts made with VICTREX ST polymer have the potential to perform better, last longer and help customers realize long term cost savings.

VICTREX ST polymer is a metal replacement option for many types of applications such as gears, seals, rings, valve plates, wire coating, disk drive carriers, connectors and test sockets.

"Victrex continues to stay focused on the design and development of polyketones," concluded Grasmeder. "Our portfolio is the broadest range on the market today and offers customers the flexibility to choose from dozens of blends and compounds. As customers look for a combination of deep expertise and high quality, Victrex Polymer Solutions is well positioned to meet their needs."
