By controlling up to 4 pumps simultaneously, WEG CFW-08 Multipump System keeps constant pressure in pipelines regardless of fluctuations in outflow demand. Unit can be operated with fixed control, where pump with variable speed is always the same, or it can function as floating control, as variable speed pump is changed according to alternating schedule. In addition, system determines acceleration and deceleration ramp along with min/max speed limits for driven pump.
ATLANTA, Georgia, April 27, 2009-WEG Electric Corp. (www.weg.net), a leading global supplier of motors, drives, controls, transformers, and generators, introduces the WEG CFW-08 Multipump Drive, a new system that allows the control of up to four pumps with one frequency drive.
By controlling up to four pumps simultaneously, the WEG CFW-08 Multipump System keeps constant pressure in pipelines regardless of fluctuations in outflow demand. In addition, the VFD (variable frequency drive) also monitors pressure and the level of the capture reservoir.
The new CFW-08 System has the capability to control in two manners. It can be operated with fixed control, where the pump with variable speed is always the same, or it can function as floating control, as the variable speed pump is changed according to an alternating schedule. The fixed control mode allows the control of up to four pumps and the floating control mode allows control of up to three pumps. The system can also determine acceleration and deceleration ramp along with minimum and maximum speed limits for the driven pump.
"There are multiple advantages to installing a multipump variable frequency drive system," said Jorge Velazquez, senior drives engineer, WEG Automation Division. "Among the benefits of the WEG CFW-08 are energy savings, extended system life, system default diagnosis, constant line pressure and pump operation time equalization."
A PID controller is used with the auxiliary pumps start/stop logic to control the system output pressure. The control unit on the WEG CFW-08 drive provides U/F control or vector sensorless, and RS232 serial interface or RS485 (optional). Engineered for heavy duty applications, controls start at .25HP and continue to 20HP.
Other features include minimum output pressure fault for broken pipe or cavitations and maximum output pressure fault for pipe obstruction.
