Alpha Wire Introduces Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen Cable

Alpha Wire's Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen Cable Family Minimize Smoke and Harmful, Corrosive Gases under Combustion

Elizabeth, NJ, April 30, 2009 - Alpha Wire today expanded its Communication and Control product family with the introduction of Low-Smoke Zero-Halogen (LSZH) Cable. Alpha Wire's new high performance LSZH cable uses a specially formulated LSZH material to minimize smoke and harmful, corrosive gases under combustion. These new LSZH products have been optimized for a wide variety of applications, such as mass transit cars and stations, airports, hospitals, boats, commercial buildings, and similar public spaces where the low-smoke, low-toxicity cables can save lives.

"Globally we are seeing a growing awareness for the benefits of using low-smoke, low-toxicity cables in public places," said Mike Dugar, Senior Product Manager at Alpha Wire. "Our LSZH offering provides popular configurations of communication and control cables with LSZH jackets and insulation. We make it easier to construct safer environments without compromising cable performance."

Alpha Wire's new LSZH cables meet the requirements of IEC 60332-1 for flammability, IEC 60754-1 and IEC 60754-2 for acid-gas generation, and IEC 61034-2 for smoke emission. The cables use stranded copper conductors for flexibility, have an operating temperature range from -20°C to +75°C, and are available unshielded, overall foil shielded, or individually foil shielded pairs, for EMI protection and improved signal integrity. Available with a 300 volt rating, the cable meets UL Type CM and CSA Type CMG FT4. They pass the UL VW-1 flame test.
