Scanning Lenses suit laser material processing applications.


May 1, 2009 - Ensuring linear relationship between input scan angle and focal position on flat plane, F-Theta Scanning Lenses include 355 nm Fused silica type lens with short focal length, which allows users to obtain smallest possible spot size. Fused silica optimizes optical transmission, particularly for UV and near-UV wavelengths. Suited for use in laser marking and 3-D prototyping systems, telecentric lenses eliminate perspective error found in conventional lens systems.

Edmund OpticsŪ Expands Options for Laser Material Processing Applications


April 28, 2009, Barrington, NJ. - Edmund Optics (EO), the premier provider of optical components, today announced an expanded line of F-Theta scanning lenses along with laser accessories for laser material processing applications. These new introductions help increase scanning system life and reduce downtime as well as improving the efficiency and uniformity of materials processing.

"EO's new lens introductions add valuable choices to those with challenging material processing applications where a laser scanning system is used," said Amr Khalil, EO's product line manager. "This addition provides advantages both in performance and reducing system downtime."

F-theta lenses simplify scanning systems by ensuring a linear relationship between the input scan angle and the focal position on a flat plane. The line includes the 355nm Fused silica type F-Theta lens with a short focal length. The short focal length allows users to obtain the smallest possible spot size to improve system resolution. The Fused silica provides better optical transmission than standard N-BK7 glass, particularly for UV and near-UV wavelengths. The increased transmission allows systems to operate with less laser power, extending laser lifetime, and reduces heat buildup in the lens due to absorption, extending lens lifetime.

The introductions provide a full line of telecentric F-Theta lenses for use in scanning systems such as laser marking and 3-D prototyping. Telecentric lenses are designed to eliminate the perspective error found in conventional lens systems, increasing the depth of field for focusing. The combination enhances the ability of scanning systems to handle non-flat surfaces and makes them ideal for cutting or drilling when the process must remain perpendicular to the surface, as in semiconductor and solar panel processing.
