Long-Distance Circulator helps improve water quality.

May 11, 2009 - Leveraging Long Distance Circulation(TM) (LDC) technology, SolarBeeŽ v18 units create gentle, near-laminar flow that helps improve water quality and biodiversity in freshwater lakes, eliminate thermal stratification and stagnation in potable water, and reduce odor issues in wastewater and industrial water reservoirs. Solar-powered, floating circulators operate continuously with low-voltage motor and incorporate programmable digital control system with anti-jam and reverse functions.

SolarBeeŽ v18 Solar-Powered, Long-Distance Water Circulator Helps Improve Water Quality in Lakes, Potable Tanks and Wastewater Storage Basins

The new SolarBee v18 units represent a significant milestone in SolarBee's Long Distance Circulation(TM) technology

Dickinson, ND -- April 23, 2009 -- The new SolarBeeŽ v18 long-distance water circulator (http://www.solarbee.com/) creates a gentle, near-laminar flow that helps improve water quality and biodiversity in freshwater lakes, helps eliminate thermal stratification and stagnation in potable water, and provides energy savings and reduces odor issues in wastewater and industrial water reservoirs. The solar-powered, floating circulators operate day and night with a low-voltage motor and on-board battery system for continuous, energy-efficient water quality improvement.

"SolarBee's unique Long-Distance Circulation(TM) (LDC) technology (http://www.solarbee.com/) pulls water from a fixed depth and moves it at an almost frictionless, or near-laminar, flow through very long distances," said Willard Tormaschy, vice president and engineering manager for SolarBee. "The new v18 units represent a significant milestone in LDC technology. New electronic improvements include a digital control system that is programmable with anti-jam and reverse functions as well as optional SCADA outputs for easy monitoring. In addition, the unit's higher efficiency, corrosion-resistant construction and hurricane ratings help improve reliability."

SolarBee v18 circulators deliver benefits in freshwater, potable water and wastewater:

Freshwater

In freshwater lakes and reservoirs, the SolarBee v18 circulator prevents and controls harmful blue-green algae blooms (cyanobacteria) to enhance water quality and improve fish habitats. One SolarBee v18 unit effectively circulates up to 35 acres in freshwater; multiple units can improve the water quality of an entire lake.

Drinking water tanks

In potable water distribution systems, SolarBee circulators thoroughly mix tanks of all sizes, ensuring consistent disinfectant residuals and preventing stagnation and thermal stratification, which in turn improves water odor and taste. The circulators can be installed in elevated, ground and underwater storage tanks and are certified to meet NSF/ANSI Standard 61 for materials in contact with drinking water.

Wastewater

In wastewater lagoons, SolarBee v18 circulators reduce energy consumption by minimizing aeration equipment run time. They also can improve regulatory compliance by reducing biochemical oxygen demand, high suspended solids and ammonia while controlling odor and improving sludge digestion.

Improved technology

A new high-wave kit includes float modifications to help stabilize the unit in rough waters. A high-efficiency brushless motor drives the impeller - the circulator's single moving part - ensuring low maintenance and long-term operation (estimated 25-year service life). For long life and maintenance ease, the unit features corrosion-resistant 316 stainless steel and non-corrosive polymer construction.

About SolarBee

SolarBee, Inc., a division of Medora Environmental, Inc., manufactures and installs solar-powered, near-laminar-flow, long-distance water circulators. Introduced in 2001, the floating, up-flow circulators can move up to 10,000 gallons per minute from depths of more than 100 feet with a solar-powered pump. SolarBee circulators help solve water-quality problems worldwide in freshwater lakes, wastewater lagoons, storm-water ponds, estuaries, potable and recycled water storage tanks and other reservoirs.
