Vehicle Restraint System secures loading dock operations.

May 8, 2009 - Featuring rotating arm that engages vehicle's rear impact guard at 90° angle, SVR303 StrongArm(TM) secures trailer to dock with 35,000 lb of restraining force. ANSI MH30.3-approved restraint can secure guards as high as 26 in. above ground and as far as 12 in. from face of dock. Dual-acting hydraulic cylinders ensure proper engagement, while switchless Intelligent Positioning System provides positive confirmation that StrongArm(TM) restraint is properly engaged and locked.

Blue Giant Introduces StrongArm(TM) Vehicle Restraint System for Loading Docks.

Brampton, ON, Canada (April 2009) - The new SVR303 StrongArm(TM) vehicle restraint system from Blue Giant Equipment Corporation delivers advanced functionality and security to loading dock operations. It features a low-profile rotating arm that engages the vehicle's rear impact guard at a 90-degree angle to secure the trailer to the dock with 35,000 pounds of restraining force.

"Industry studies show that falls from high places such as docks is one of the top four warehouse accidents, along with forklifts overturning, failure to enforce the use of personal protective equipment, and injuries caused by unguarded machinery and equipment," says Jeff Miller, Blue Giant VP of Sales & Marketing. "Our new StrongArm(TM) vehicle restraint system can go a long way toward preventing these accidents and complying with OSHA regulations requiring that trucks and trailers be secured to the loading dock."

The ANSI MH30.3-approved StrongArm(TM) restraint can be mounted to either the dock face or driveway to accommodate various applications and driveway designs. Only eight inches of clearance is needed under the trailer's rear impact guard, and it can secure guards as high as 26 inches above the ground and as far as 12 inches from the face of the dock. This means it can accommodate a wide variety of vehicles, including air-ride suspension trailers that can easily change working heights when the air is released, trailers with closed-in or damaged rear impact guards, and those bent by traffic accidents or by impact-type restraints. It is also effective when wall bumpers are worn down or missing. The low-profile StrongArm(TM) body does not impede the dock leveler lip, even during below-level and end-loading operations, and cannot be accidently disengaged by lip contact.

Dual-acting hydraulic cylinders ensure proper engagement and prevent lock-up or disengagement problems commonly caused by loading and unloading forklift vibrations and movements. Once the restraint is locked in the 90-degree absolute locking position, no external power or continuous pressures are required to maintain 35,000 pounds of retraining force against unscheduled trailer departures. When combined with optional tamper-proof hardware, this also provides a powerful theft deterrent to trailers left at the dock overnight.

Blue Giant offers the Blue Genius(TM) Touch Control Panel for operating the SVR303 StrongArm(TM) vehicle restraint. The 24-volt Blue Genius(TM) controller features very accurate and reliable proximity-sensing buttons that sense the operator's finger within the low-level electric field range - there are no mechanical buttons or parts to wear, corrode, or break. Onboard diagnostics and communications use a multi-language LCD screen to provide real time, easily understood instructions for operation, maintenance, and diagnostics. It also features a supervisory keypad lockout and override function capabilities.

The StrongArm(TM) restraint's switchless Intelligent Positioning System communicates to bright LED traffic lights to provide positive confirmation - both to inside workers and outside drivers - that the StrongArm(TM) restraint is properly engaged and locked.

"The Blue Giant(TM) StrongArm(TM) system is a key component of our Smart Technologies and Engineering Platforms (STEP) initiative," adds Steve Greco, Blue Giant Director of Marketing & International Sales. "STEP is the cornerstone of our commitment to continually introduce advanced technology solutions that will play a significant role in safe and controlled loading dock operations worldwide. The StrongArm(TM) restraints and Blue Genius(TM) controllers are just the first of many new offerings from Blue Giant in 2009 introduced at the International Door Association Expo held at the Gaylord Opryland Convention Center in Nashville, TN, on April 24-25, 2009."
