Fibre Ribbon Cable accelerates installation time.

May 8, 2009 - Based on Easy Split bend-insensitive Ribbon Fibre, C-Groove Cable features C-shaped core that remains intact once outer coating is removed, enabling fibres to be removed from open face of C-groove. Four fibre ribbon inside cable can be separated into individual fibres in seconds using de-ribbonizing tool, eliminating need for mass fusion splicers and hot jacket strippers. Once desired fibres have been extracted, outer coating can be re-sealed by pressing cover back over cable.

Fujikura Saves FTTX Time and Cost with C-Groove Cable

New cable offers 50 percent reduction on installation time for engineers

Fujikura Europe has launched the C-Groove cable, a new design that enables fast access to fibres without compromising the structural integrity of the cable. This allows access to individual fibres within minutes, creating a 50 percent reduction in installation time for engineers. The Fujikura 'Easy Split' bend insensitive Ribbon Fibre comprising of 48 encapsulated fibres, offers a smaller diameter than conventional Loose Tube cable. This allows for more space in fibre ducts.

The key to the easy access provided by this cable is its C shaped core, once the outer coating is removed, the core remains intact and fibres can be removed from the open face of the C-Groove. The four fibre ribbon inside the lightweight C-Groove cable can be separated into individual fibres in a few seconds, using a simple de-ribbonising tool, eliminating the need for mass fusion splicers and hot jacket strippers. Once the desired fibres have been extracted, the outer coating can be re-sealed by simply pressing the cover back over the cable. As this process is repeatable, adding new subscribers in the future is an extremely simple procedure.

"The time savings offered by this truly innovative, Ribbon Fibre-based cable are phenomenal," said Fujikura Product Marketing Manager, Grant Ogilvie. "Being able to conclusively demonstrate that, by using our C-Groove cable and Easy Split fibre, an engineer can almost double their productivity is a compelling offering for service providers around Europe undertaking fibre installations."

The C-Groove cable was developed in Japan to meet the demand for economical construction of access networks.
