Digital Active Harmonics Filters perform targeted PFC.

April 17, 2009 - In addition to providing real-time mitigation of harmonic currents up to 50th order, ECOsine Active Filters immediately compensate for voltage dips and reactive power surges. Units continuously measure and analyze disturbances in power network and provide exactly opposite compensation current, responding in less than ½ ms. Filters are available in 3-phase/3-wire as well as 3-phase/4-wire configurations for 480 and 400 V grids, respectively, and with rated compensation currents from 30-300 A.

New ECOsine Active Harmonics Filters Improve Power Quality; Reduce Downtime

Edison, N.J. April 2009 -- Schaffner, the international leader in the fields of electromagnetic compatibility and power quality, now offers the digital ECOsine Active Harmonics Filters (AHFs) that provide real-time mitigation of harmonics and immediate compensation for voltage dips and reactive power surges.

ECOsine Active filters continuously measure and analyze disturbances in the power network and provide an exactly opposite compensation current. In doing so, the filters actively adapt to changing network topologies and respond in less than half a millisecond, before damage from the disturbances can occur.

The improved power quality provided by the new filters minimizes the risk of downtime and process interruptions, saving energy and money. In addition to the global or selective mitigation of harmonic currents up to the 50th order, ECOsine Active filters are able to perform targeted power factor correction. This highly dynamic process provides the required reactive power within microseconds, faster than traditional automatic capacitor banks.

ECOsine Active filters are compatible with the stringent international harmonics standard IEEE 519 as well as with local utility codes. In addition, their electrical infrastructure is unburdened, preventing potential overheating of transformers, motors or cables and reducing premature wear of electrical equipment.

The filters are available in 3-phase/3-wire as well as 3-phase/4-wire configurations for 480V and 400V grids respectively and with rated compensation currents from 30A to 300A. All 3-wire filters are UL listed.

The IP20 50A and 100A filters are ideal for panel integration, where they can be installed right by the non-linear load. The IP54 rating of the 300A unit provides protection against dust and environmental influences, perfect for harsh industrial applications.

ECOsine Active filters are easy to install and intuitive to operate. Their compact packaging makes the filters ideal for use where space is limited. Building technology and HVAC installations; data, UPS and banking centers; water/wastewater treatment facilities as well as heavy industry and welding applications can benefit equally from the many advantages of ECOsineT Active filters.

The ECOsine Active filters are an expansion to Schaffner's ECOsine filter series, introduced in May 2008 with the company's ECOsine Passive harmonics filters.

Additional information can be obtained from www.myecosine.com, the product documentation, and from every worldwide Schaffner location.
