New Desktop Supercomputer to Replace Clusters/Grids for Massive Parallel Processing Applications

Equivalent performance for 1/3 the cost, 2% of the energy, 1% of the floor space

North Andover, MA, March 17, 2009 - Kuberre Systems today introduced HANSA, a new hardware design and rich software stack for use in the High Performance Computing market. HANSA delivers computing power equivalent to a 768 CPU server grid or a 1,536 core super computer. It does this at 1/3 the cost, with 2% of the energy requirements, and in 1% of the floor space http://www.kuberresystems.com/solutio...).

A patent-pending platform, HANSA combines Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) power, flexible C/C++/Java API programming, and a GNU C Compiler. HANSA is a simple plug and play system that runs existing C/C++ applications without rewrite. A single CPU board allows users to interact with and manage the platform as a Windows or Linux workstation - with no reprogramming.

HANSA comes with 1536 double-precision cores to solve numerical problems or 768 generic RISC-processing cores to solve generic "C" problems. It can link proprietary "C" libraries seamlessly in a massively parallel environment. A powerful 256GB memory cache distributed and shared across all processors eliminates network latencies associated with data transfers and increases the size and scope of problems it can solve.

HANSA enables firms to accelerate the performance of computationally intensive applications, such as Risk analysis and derivatives valuation in the financial industry, pattern matching algorithms such as BLAST in the life sciences, Wavelet/FF Transforms in image/signal processing, complex modeling and simulations, along with handling massive quantities of latency-sensitive data to support high frequency/algorithmic trading. For example, a single HANSA machine can run more than 1,000 simultaneous VWAP calculations; concurrently price more than 1,000 complex derivatives; or compute a correlation matrix of size up to 64Kx64K.

HANSA has a scalable architecture that can include from 4 to 64 FPGAs in a 9u cabinet (approximately 3 feet square) and ranging in price from $50,000 to $500,000.

HANSA was designed by a team of quantitative professionals with more than thirteen years of deep financial markets domain expertise coupled with more than 27 years of hardware experience developing high performance/low latency engineering solutions for the defense industry.
