Methods Introduces Entry-Level, Efficient Turn / Mill Centers for Significant Cycle Time Reductions

Nakamura-Tome TW-8 Multitasking Centers feature user- friendly operations and programming in 4 or 6-axis configurations.

SUDBURY, MA. U.S.A. (January 5, 2009) - Today, Methods Machine Tools Inc., a leading supplier of innovative precision machine tools, introduced the High-Performance Nakamura-Tome TW-8 Multi-Tasking Turning / Milling Centers for cycle time reductions between 30 - 50%. An opposed two-spindle, 2-turret construction allows the centers to perform like two single spindle machines within a compact footprint. The entry-level TW-8 turn / mill systems feature a Fanuc 31iA Control for easy operation and offer standard conversational programming. Configurations include the 4-axis platform and an optional 6-axis MM package that facilitates simple cross-drilled holes and milling operations on the c-axis.

"The compact TW-8 centers offer our customers an introductory, highly efficient turning solution with milling capabilities," said Mr. Richard Parenteau, Director of Application Development at Methods Machine Tools Inc. "It is an excellent solution for medium production of small components requiring fast cycle times."

The TW-8 systems offer features that make it ideal for a broad range of applications including small shaft parts with simple secondary features (ie. cross holes, flats + hex).

The systems include 12 rotating, milling tool stations with rotating tool speeds of 4,000 min-1. Two 12-station turrets (24 total) is standard. The TW-8 features a maximum turning diameter of 7.5" (190mm) and a turning length of 4.5" (115mm). Bar capacity on the left and right spindle is 1.340" (34mm). Spindle speeds are up to 6,000 min-1 (left and right). Slide travel on the X-axis (left / right) is 6" (155mm), and on the Z-axis is 7" (180mm) on the left and 20.7" on the right. Left and right spindle motors are 10 HP.

The system is offered in a compact 39.6 sq. ft. footprint with dimensions (W x L x H) of 90.5" (2300mm) x 63" (1600mm) x 63" (1600mm). The 4-axis version weighs 10,600 lbs and the 6-axis configuration is 11,050 lbs.
