Stanley Proto Announces Classic Screwdrivers

The company has used the latest in materials technology to improve one of the most useful tools ever made.

Conyers, GA, Feb 9, 2009 - The fluted handle screwdriver has proved its worth over the years in everything from everyday maintenance to heavy manufacturing. Now Stanley Proto has introduced a Classic Screwdriver line that takes the look and feel of this industrial workhorse, but updates it with advanced materials and features to meet today's toughest applications.

Proto has made enhancements to the entire tool, from the contoured end of the handle to the working end of the tip.

Handle. The most prominent feature of the new screwdriver design is the four-sided fluted handle. What's new here is the material used to make the handle: an impact-resistant extruded acetate that's extremely tough, with a high resistance to harsh chemicals (including the hydraulic fluids used in the aerospace industry). Handle diameters have also been increased for a better grip, more driving power, and less fatigue. The handle's broad, shallow flutes further enhance the grip and prevent the tool from rolling away when placed on a work bench, while its smooth surface make it a comfortable tool to use.

Shank. Shanks come in round and square varieties. Most of the larger round shank models include a hex bolster where the shank meets the handle, so the user can grab it with a wrench when added torque leverage is needed. The shank is made from high alloy, hardened steel to keep it from bending or twisting when placed under torque. Metal ears at the top of the shank securely embed it in the handle and prevent it from stripping out. The shank is also fully ground and chemically polished, then chrome plated for corrosion resistance.

Blade and tip. The business end of the screwdriver has also been updated. Slotted, Phillips®, Cabinet, or Torx® tips are available, all of which have been made with the same high-alloy steel used in the shank. Each tip is precision machined to fit snugly in the fastener head and finished with a black oxide finish to help prevent cam out and slipping. The tips are un-plated with a black oxide finish to help prevent chrome peeling, an important feature where Foreign Object Debris is a concern.

This launch includes 59 individual screwdrivers and 10 sets. All Proto Classic Screwdrivers are made in the USA.
