Sandvik Coromant Develops Versatile Grade for HRSA and Stainless Steel Machining

Fair Lawn, New Jersey, February 23, 2009 - Sandvik Coromant will release the latest high-performance, sharp-edge grade in March 2009. The GC1115 is designed to ensure secure and reliable performance in applications ranging from aerospace to general engineering.

GC1115 combines the toughness and heat resistance of fine grain cemented carbide with the wear resistance of a unique PVD coating, making it an effective choice for predictable production systems where unstable conditions are likely to occur. The PVD coating also allows the grade to maintain sharp edges over a longer time in cut, while optimized micro-geometries ensure high component precision at low cutting forces. Additionally, GC1115 is versatile enough to complete an entire component and increase active machining time.

The new grade is designed for finishing to medium machining in stainless steel and medium to roughing in heat resistant super alloys and titanium. It is available in a wide selection of positive and negative basic-shape inserts, as well as the full -M, -G and -E tolerance range for different insert edge sharpness and CoroCutŪ angled inserts for improved access in aerospace applications.

GC1115 joins GC1125 and GC1515 in the PVD chain within the green light production message from Sandvik Coromant. The grades offer improved wear resistance, closer tolerances and higher security to provide lower costs and true, undisturbed machining performance.
