Lancope Announces StealthWatch System 5.9 to Unify Visibility, Security and Performance Monitoring across Physical and Virtual Networks

Network Behavior Analysis Leader Applies Anomaly Detection and Network Performance Monitoring Expertise to Virtual Environments

ATLANTA, Feb. 17 /- Lancope, Inc., the provider of StealthWatch, the Best in NetFlow Analysis (http://www.lancope.com/news/08052008.aspx) and the most widely used network behavior analysis (NBA) and response system, today announced StealthWatch System 5.9, a system-wide upgrade which includes the launch of the StealthWatch FlowSensor VE, the complimentary, software-only NetFlow-based solution for performance monitoring and securing virtual environments. The latest version of StealthWatch will deliver unified visibility across virtual and physical networks with the capability to seamlessly and centrally manage and monitor global infrastructures from a single dashboard.

"While virtualization has a number of key benefits, it also presents significant management challenges," said Dr. Jim Metzler of Ashton, Metzler and Associates. "End-to-end network visibility -- an absolute requirement for IT organizations -- is lost upon server virtualization. Lancope recognizes that virtual machines have limited compute resources and consequently has developed a lightweight solution for gaining visibility into virtual networks. Furthermore, Lancope provides a unified view of physical and virtual network visibility to minimize administrative and management burdens associated with maintaining disparate, non-integrated technologies."

Building upon fundamental product values, such as maximizing ROI from existing resources and enabling lightweight, scalable, enterprise deployment, the StealthWatch System 5.9 introduces the following key capabilities for optimizing network and security operations across physical and virtual networks:

-- StealthWatch FlowSensor(TM) VE with support for VMware ESX 3.5

Integrating seamlessly with the award-winning, physical StealthWatch System, the StealthWatch FlowSensor VE software appliance to analyze virtual network traffic to detect and address configuration problems, inefficiencies in resource allocation, security violations and policy violations before any failure occurs in the virtual environment. Deployed on a VMware ESX server, the StealthWatch FlowSensor VE provides deep virtual monitoring to manage performance, capacity and availability of all virtual technologies, down to the performance metrics of individual virtual machine (VM) instances and the applications that reside within.

By capturing vital traffic statistics about ingressing, egressing and VM-to-VM communications across the server, the StealthWatch FlowSensor VE provides complete visibility into security, network, user and application activity across virtual networks. This critical network intelligence addresses multiple challenges, including gaining virtual network topological and location awareness, securing virtual networks, demonstrating compliance, controlling VM sprawl and tracking virtual machines when they are moved via VMware VMotion, to protect the cost-savings associated with server virtualization.

-- Enhanced Reporting and WorkFlow Automation

In addition to offering a host of new reports that support the virtual environment, StealthWatch continues to deliver several powerful, system-wide reporting enhancements that reflect StealthWatch's unique ability to combine both security and network performance monitoring into a single, actionable view. These enhanced, more granular reports aid in usability and provide more extensive audit information for alarms. With enriched workflow automation, StealthWatch helps further streamline security and network operations, improve operational efficiency, enhance user productivity and increase communication and collaboration among security, network and server groups.

-- Extended Response Management System via integration with Qualys

StealthWatch now enables the ability to perform Qualys vulnerability scans in response to any alarm raised by the system. This powerful integration allows users to automatically gather insightful, relevant characteristics for those hosts exhibiting unusual network behavior, which can be indicative of attacks, worms or policy violations. Together, these leading technologies give Enterprises comprehensive contextual awareness to further strengthen the security of their networks, conduct automated security audits and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.

Lancope continues to revolutionize the way enterprises view and manage network and security operations by delivering new and innovative network visibility and optimization functionality. "Building on our NetFlow innovation, Lancope is pioneering unified visibility solutions for evolving networks by expanding StealthWatch beyond the physical network as the best-of-breed visibility solution for virtualized networks," said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. "As our product family becomes increasingly sophisticated and we expand our global presence, it's imperative that we continue to add the highest caliber of solutions. This release marks the extension of Lancope's award-winning security and performance monitoring functionality into the virtualized environment, providing unparalleled visibility into this critical portion of the network infrastructure."
