BI Technologies Develops Low-Profile Gate Drive Transformer with 1500vdc Isolation

Low profile transformer ideal for switchmode power supplies, power electronics circuits...

WASHINGTON, D.C. (February 17, 2009) - TT electronics BI Technologies, a leading
manufacturer of magnetic components including inductors, transformers and common mode
chokes, has developed a family of gate drive transformers in miniature surface mount packages.

Designated the HM42 Series, the transformers provide 1500Vdc isolation between gate and drive and 1500Vrms insulation between primary and secondary windings.

"The gate drive transformers were designed to meet the needs of high power, high
frequency power electronics circuit designers," said Donna Schaefer, application engineering manager for TT electronics' BI Technologies. "Along with the 1500Vdc isolation, the transformers are operational up to 1MHz, making them ideal for power circuits in switchmode power supplies, along with any power electronics circuit where a power MOSFET is required.

The new HM42 Series gate drive transformers feature an operating frequency range from
50kHz to 1MHz. DCRs range from 0.6W to 2.0W for the primary winding and 0.3 to 2.0W for the secondary winding. Turns ratios, depending on model configuration, include 1:1, 1:1:1 and 2:1:1.

Minimum primary inductance ranges from 1200µH to 300µH. The RoHS-compliant
transformers are offered in package sizes ranging from 3mm to 7.8mm. Operating temperature ranges from -40° to +125°C.

Typical pricing for the HM42 Series gate drive transformer ranges from $0.64 to $0.82
each in quantities of 10k pieces. Lead time is from stock to 8 to 10 weeks.
