Affordable Casella Sound Meters Offer Digital Signal Processing at Analog Instrument Prices

-- New models targeted at industrial hygiene and occupational safety --

AMHERST, NH, Februaru 3, 2009 -- -- Casella USA, the North American subsidiary of worldwide measurement leader Casella CEL, , today announced expansion of its market-leading noise monitoring lineup with the new CEL-24X Series of digital sound level meters designed as affordable solutions for OSHA noise surveys, fire alarm sound level checks, car noise measurement, and other general purpose applications.

Priced comparable to traditional analog instruments, the new meters feature Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology to cover an audio span of 30dB to 130dB in just two spans, thus eliminating the need to change ranges during most measurements. The new meters meet strict ANSI and IEC accuracy specifications in the Type 2 category.

"Casella's concentration on workplace sound level monitoring and its leadership in advanced digital technologies have enabled it to continually deliver capacities like DSP that were previously available only from more expensive meters," noted Bob Selwyn, V.P. of Sales at Casella USA. "The powerful yet affordable 24X Series further broadens our full line of noise monitoring instruments to meet a diversified need of safety technicians and industrial hygienists."

All CEL-24X models feature two measurement ranges, as well as a large graphic LCD screen (128 x 128) with large numeric and analog bar graph that can display the instantaneous and maximum values. Shared capabilities include slow, fast and impulse time weightings in A or C frequencies, plus current, highest and optional time average noise levels. In addition, all four meters auto calibrate at either 114 or 94 1 kHz decibel levels.

The 24X Series consists of:

o CEL-240: a basic sound level Type 2 meter with foam windscreen and wrist strap.

o CEL-242: logging sound level Type 2 meter with foam windscreen and wrist strap

o CEL-244: Integrating sound level meter Type 2 with foam windscreen and wrist strap plus capabilities for time average value Leq or Lavg

o CEL-246: Logging integrating sound level meter Type 2 with foam windscreen and wrist strap plus capabilities for time average value Leq or Lavg.

AA batteries power all four meters for a run time of approximately 35 hours. Casella also offers an optional USB mini A cable to permit fast downloading to a PC or for remote power. Additionally, technicians can purchase the company's Microsoft® Windows® dB24 software package for data logging in spreadsheet format style.

Casella CEL-24X Series meters are immediately available. Pricing starts at $395.00 (U.S).
