Machining Centers offer traction drive technology.

February 16, 2009 - JetMachining® Centers are available with closed-loop Intelli-TRAX®, which optimizes traverse speeds to reduce throughput times when machining multiple and nested parts. Mechanical force needed to produce motion is obtained from friction wheel pressed tightly against rail and is controlled by operator. Linear encoder positioning system, featuring sensor with 1 µm resolution, reads position information from precision linear tape scale attached to beam assembly.

OMAX® Traction Drive Delivers High Precision Accuracy and Improved Flexibility

Kent, Washington, February 9, 2009 - OMAX® Corporation recently developed the Intelli-TRAX®, a traction drive that is closed loop to ensure high precision accuracy on larger models of JetMachining® Centers.

The mechanical force to produce motion is obtained from a friction wheel pressed tightly against a rail and is easily controlled. This force is set to be sufficient in providing the required motion while being low enough to prevent injury to an operator. The drive uses a linear encoder positioning system with a sensor to read position information from a precision linear tape scale attached to the beam assembly. The sensor has a resolution of 1 µm. OMAX's decision to use precision linear tape scales instead of mechanical components allows users to achieve superior accuracy and greater safety.

The use of traction drive technology enables higher traverse speeds, which can greatly reduce the throughput times when machining multiple and nested parts. The drive also provides the flexibility to extend the X-axis work envelope on even our larger machine tables.

Intelli-TRAX is fully enclosed inside coated steel covers and tracks along a hardened, precision-ground stainless steel shaft, making it well suited for harsh environments. With no components in the system requiring lubrication, the traction drive system needs little maintenance.

OMAX is committed to developing cutting-edge technology and innovative software to ensure that each customer enjoys the benefits of the industry's best abrasive waterjet machines and accessories. As a result, each OMAX product comes with the OMAX Technology Guarantee, which provides software upgrades for all existing customers at no additional charge.
