HUGHES Telematics Announces in-Drive Product Line as its Aftermarket Solution

Self-installed device offers convenient and low cost telematics services to drivers

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8 /-- CES -- HUGHES Telematics today announced in-Drive, its unique aftermarket product line offering telematics services and hardware for vehicles. in-Drive leverages HUGHES Telematics' existing next generation telematics architecture to provide select convenience and diagnostic services for the driver.

A small device the size of a deck of cards, in-Drive offers many services that are typically available only with factory-installed equipment. Services may include the ability to locate a stolen vehicle, diagnostics reporting and the ability to monitor and locate family vehicles. in-Drive is the little device that can make a big difference.

Insurance companies can utilize in-Drive to offer clients additional service options such as usage-based insurance programs (UBI). UBI programs allow insurance companies to offer savings to customers based on safe driving practices and patterns. in-Drive is also an attractive solution to motor clubs, allowing the club to offer additional services and benefits as a part of the membership package.

"As the telematics industry continues to grow, HUGHES Telematics recognized the need for an aftermarket solution like in-Drive," said Erik Goldman, president, HUGHES Telematics. "Our advantage was the ability to leverage our existing next generation telematics architecture and patented technologies to package a solution specifically designed to meet the needs of certain market segments."

"in-Drive allows our customers to create and bundle aftermarket services unique to their brand and customer target markets," said Fred Blumer, vice president of aftermarket services, HUGHES Telematics. "We are leveraging HUGHES Telematics' knowledge and expertise in the telematics industry to expand the scope of our services and move into the future of the connected drive."

HUGHES Telematics will demonstrate the in-Drive solution at Consumer Electronics Show, January 2009 in Las Vegas.
