Motorola Unveils 2009 Collection of TALKABOUT Two-Way Radios at CES With Enhanced Features for Serious Outdoor Communications and Emergency Preparedness

Radios feature extended range, emergency preparedness features with flexible charging options for a convenient, total communication device

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 -- CES -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today announced three new series of Talkabout(R) two-way radios at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Unveiled as part of the 2009 portfolio of consumer two-way radios, the new MR350R radio series take two-way communications to the next level by combining powerful features for active, outdoor adventures with convenient emergency preparedness tools. In addition, Motorola introduced the MH230R and MJ270R series, which cater to families with an array of features at affordable prices.

"The Motorola TALKABOUT MR350R series of two-way radios combine important emergency and weather alerts with reliable two-way communications, enabling outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy their adventure while staying connected with loved ones," said Marjon De Groot, director of marketing for Giant International, a Motorola distribution ally. "The radios integrate convenient features with the functionality of FRS/GMRS communications, making them a simple tool for today's active lifestyles."

Powerful Connections for Optimal Performance and Versatility

The MR350R two-way radios are loaded with practical features to keep outdoor enthusiasts informed and in constant communication during remote expeditions. With a range of up to 35 miles(1) under optimum conditions, the radios offer dependable communication in areas not covered by cell phone towers or during emergencies when cell phone communication is overloaded. The rugged radios are also equipped with Motorola's Push-to-Talk (PTT) power boost feature. When activated, this feature helps extend the transmission range by increasing the transmitter power output while helping to save battery life when no power boost is necessary.

Skiers and winter sports adventurists will appreciate the new design that features extra large buttons making it easier than ever to operate with gloves.

For quiet adventures or when ringing is intrusive, the VibraCall feature can be enabled to silently alert users to incoming transmissions. Additionally, the MR350R includes interchangeable faceplates and 20 unique call tones, which allows users to customize their radios to reflect their personal style.

Convenient Communications for Potential Emergency

The Motorola TALKABOUT MR350R and MJ270R radio series are the ideal communication device for emergency preparedness kits. The radios contain a variety of practical features to keep families prepared in any circumstance or setting - from remote mountainside retreats to unexpected power outages at home. Both models feature an emergency alert feature, which enables users to activate a siren and transmit messages to other radio users. The radios also feature a built-in LED flashlight for unexpected weather emergencies and power outages as well as an emergency checklist. Families also have access to seven National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and four Environment Canada (EC) weather channels, which provide continuous broadcasts of local and regional weather updates(2).

The MR350R, MJ270R and MH230R radio series feature flexible charging options for ultimate mobility. Users can choose to charge in the included dual drop-in charger, or use the mini-USB port in the radio to charge in the car or connect to a PC. For remote adventures standard alkaline batteries can be used when no power is available. Additionally, hands-free communication is available by using the iVOX speech-activated feature, which provides active families the freedom of mobility in even the most remote settings.

Pricing

The Motorola Talkabout MR350R radios have a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $79.99 per pair, the Motorola Talkabout MJ270R radios have an MSRP of $69.99 per pair and the Motorola Talkabout MH230R radios have an MSRP of $59.99 per pair.
