Optocouplers provide noise immunity for various applications.
January 7, 2009 -
Delivering 2.5 and 1 A output current, respectively, FOD3120 and FOD3150 gate drive optocouplers can drive 1,200 V/20 A IGBTs and MOSFETs in noisiest industrial environments. They offer pulse width distortion of 100 ns and peak working voltage of 1,414 V. Suited for solar inverters, motor drives, and induction heating applications, units feature lead-free (Pb-free) terminals and comply with IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020 for moisture sensitivity.
Increases Efficiency in Solar Inverters, Motor Drives and Induction Heating Applications
SAN JOSE, Calif. - December 18, 2008 - Fairchild Semiconductor (NYSE: FCS) brings designers of solar inverters, motor drives and induction heating applications a best-in-class common mode rejection (CMR) optocoupler solution. The FOD3120 and FOD3150, 2.5A and 1A output current gate drive optocouplers, achieve the industry's highest CMR rating and can easily drive 1200V/20A IGBTs and MOSFETs even in the noisiest industrial environment. This noise immunity is instrumental in preventing unwanted switching which can lead to shoot-through current and damage to the IGBT. These devices also offer tight pulse width distortion (100ns), offering smaller filters. Smaller filters consume less power and lead to improved power efficiency. With a 1414V peak working voltage, these gate drive optocouplers are able to accommodate high voltage IGBTs.
Fairchild is a leading supplier of optoelectronic products, offering a wide range of packaging platforms and incorporating various combinations of input and output configurations. Fairchild offers simple function optocouplers for low-bandwidth/general switching applications, high performance optocouplers for high bandwidth/high-gain applications, high-voltage optocouplers for AC load switching applications, and other complex functions that provide unique performance characteristics. In addition, Fairchild has infrared components, ranging from infrared light emitting diodes (LEDs), photodetectors, transmissive and reflective opto-sensors, and customized products to meet specific design requirements.
The FOD3120 and FOD3150 utilize lead-free (Pb-free) terminals and have been characterized for moisture sensitivity in accordance with the Pb-free reflow requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020.
