Thyristors offer high-temperature operation.

December 12, 2008 - With max junction temperature of 125°C, Multipulse(TM) SIDAC Series is capable of switching speeds exceeding 8 kHz. Units optimize speed and consistency of lamp lighting by allowing multiple sparks per half cycle. During lamp outages, ignitor functions in active mode or in continuous operation until lamp is replaced. Suited for metal halide and high-pressure sodium lighting, devices potentially eliminate need for complex hybrid circuits for ignition and switching.

New Littelfuse Multipulse SIDAC Teccor Brand Thyristor Devices Feature High Temperature Operation and Fast Switching Speeds

DES PLAINES, Illinois, November 20, 2008 - Littelfuse, Inc. (NASDAQ/NGS:LFUS) introduced the Multipulse(TM) SIDAC Series of voltage switching devices for a number of applications including metal halide and high-pressure sodium lighting. These SIDAC devices feature high temperature operation and guaranteed high switching speeds.

The guaranteed switching speed of the Multipulse(TM) SIDAC Series improves the speed and consistency of lamp lighting by allowing multiple sparks per half cycle. Metal halide lighting applications require multiple strikes per half cycle to ionize the lamp and high temperature reliability during lamp outages. During lamp outages, the ignitor functions in the active mode or in continuous operation until the lamp is replaced. Thus, high-temperature reliability is crucial in order for the SIDAC to withstand continuous high temperatures.

The Littelfuse Multipulse(TM) SIDAC Series offers a rated maximum junction temperature of 125° C, considerably better than the 110° C maximum of standard products. It also features a unique, fast switching capability and reliable construction, capable of switching at speeds exceeding 8kHz, or up to two times faster than standard products. Multipulse(TM) SIDAC devices potentially eliminate the need for costly and complex hybrid circuits for ignition and switching, following the industry trend toward more economical and efficient lighting solutions.

Littlefuse offers the Multipulse(TM) SIDAC Series devices in a wide range of standard voltages in industry standard axial packaging for maximum design flexibility. The new series expands on an existing line of general purpose SIDAC devices for lighting and direct spark applications. The new Multipulse(TM) SIDAC Series rounds out Littlefuse's extensive portfolio by offering specific products for a set of lighting ignition applications.

In addition, custom voltage ranges and electrical screening and/or marking are available upon request from the factory, making Littelfuse a total solutions provider for SIDAC voltage switching devices.

Availability

The Multipulse SIDAC Series is available in four standard versions; the K2201G, K2401G, K2501G, and K3601G. Samples are available immediately. Typical lead time for production quantities is eight to ten weeks ARO, although aggressive customer lead time expectations can be accommodated.
