Infrared Gas Detector is immune to poisoning.

December 12, 2008 - Designed to detect liquid petroleum gas hazards before concentrations reach flammable levels, Xgard IR LPG features detection range of 0-100% lower explosive limit. Unlike catalytic pellistors, IR sensor detects flammable gas in inert backgrounds and is not damaged by high gas concentrations. Available in polyester-coated aluminum or 316 stainless steel enclosure, sensor offers life expectancy of 5 yr. Xgard IR LPG is Exd flameproof rated and UL approved for hazardous areas.

New Infrared Gas Detector for LPG Gas Hazards

UL-approved detector immune to poisoning

Erlanger, KY (December 3, 2008) - The Xgard IR LPG from Crowcon is a new, low cost infrared (IR) fixed gas detector designed to detect liquid petroleum gas (LPG) hazards before concentrations reach flammable levels. Typical environments requiring LPG monitoring include petroleum refineries, vehicle filling stations, buildings that use LPG as their main gas supply, and also many manufacturing processes.

Conventional LPG detectors based on catalytic pellistors are susceptible to poisoning in some industrial atmospheres. This can make their readings unreliable and even destroy the sensor altogether. The new Xgard IR LPG is totally immune to poisoning and will reliably warn of LPG gas hazards in environments that are unsuitable for other types of sensors. The detection range is 0-100% lower explosive limit.

Infrared sensing has additional benefits over traditional sensing. Unlike catalytic pellistors, IR sensors detect flammable gas in inert backgrounds, are not damaged by high gas concentrations. The Xgard IR consumes half the power of comparable catalytic bead detectors.

The new IR LPG sensor can be specified with two types of enclosures: polyester-coated aluminium or 316 stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance in extreme environments. The sensor, which has a life expectancy of over 5 years, is a simple plug-in module that makes replacement quick and easy. UL approved for use in hazardous areas to detect methane, butane and propane, the Xgard IR LPG is Exd flameproof rated.
The standard junction box is designed for both wall and ceiling mounting, and four cable gland options ensure compatibility on any site. The detector takes a range of accessories for harsh or wet conditions and for remote sampling.
