ATLANTA, Dec. 8 /-- ROBOBAK(TM), the leader in agentless data protection software designed for remote and branch offices, today announced a new version of its software that cuts the time required for full remote backups of Microsoft Exchange databases by up to 90 percent or more. The result makes it possible for storage administrators to once again get a handle on email data protection requirements that have been increasingly spiraling out of control. It also provides them with the assurance that their email databases, containing multiple gigabytes or terabytes of corporate-critical information, can be easily and reliably backed up offsite.
ROBOBAK's Thin Backup Option(TM) for Exchange (TBO-E) is included in the latest version of its Data Protection Suite platform, which will be available in early 2009. Using Exchange database delta differentials available through Microsoft's ESE API, it cuts the time needed to complete Exchange backups to mere minutes, even for very large Exchange databases. TBO-E is an enhancement to ROBOBAK's existing feature set, which includes source-based data de-duplication and compression, an "incremental forever" approach to backups, and the creation of "synthetic" full backups on demand in real time to simplify restore procedures, and can be used in conjunction with these features to provide comprehensive ROBO backup and recovery solutions that require very little bandwidth between local and remote locations.
A new report from Taneja Group analyst Eric Burgener notes that data is growing by more than 50 percent a year for most enterprises, with much of it stored on Exchange-powered servers. The report offers the opinion that ROBOBAK TBO-E "offers significant advantages in dealing specifically with backup window, recovery point objective (RPO), and bandwidth issues.
"The introduction of the ROBOBAK Exchange TBO makes a product that is already well suited to ROBO (remote office, branch office) environments even better in ways that are very meaningful for Exchange backup administrators," Burgener continues, adding, "The TBO is well matched to deal with large Exchange data stores while minimizing the time and bandwidth required to consistently maintain a solid data protection regimen."
"TBO-E represents a vast advantage over anything that's on the market today for both us and our customers," said R.J. Riemensnider, chief technical officer at DataInsure, an Atlanta-based managed service provider specializing in online data protection for mid-sized enterprises. "After testing ROBOBAK's TBO-E, we project that our costs to back up Exchange databases will drop significantly. We will also be able to cut the time we need to perform the backup and restore operations and automate the process, depending on the size of our customers' data load, which means that our existing IT staff can be more efficiently deployed to handle other tasks."
TBO-E is only one of many improvements incorporated as part of ROBOBAK's v9 software; for instance, users will be able to take advantage of "instant backup" technology that discovers changes on the host or networked machine within second, making subsequent backups extremely fast.
