Sludge Belt Dryer facilitates biosolids management.

December 4, 2008 - Featuring 1- or 2-belt adjustable-speed design, convective Sludge Belt Dryer provides evaporative capacities of 1,000-13,000 lb of water/hr and is designed to operate continuously if required. Sludge is uniformly distributed on entire belt width to cause uniform evaporation. Requiring 1,441 BTU/lb of heat, dryer includes ability to vary residence times in drying zone, which enables fine tuning of product moisture to meet final use or disposal requirements.

Siemens Introduces Sludge Belt Dryer for Improved Biosolids Management

Siemens Water Technologies is adding the new Sludge Belt Dryer to its array of sludge dewatering options. This convective dryer is supplied in a one- or two-belt design that provides uniform evaporation and has an adjustable speed belt to vary residence times. System advantages include efficient operation in minimal space, low emissions, low dust, a granular final product and a low thermal requirement with possible heat recovery from low temperature waste energy sources. By making better use of wastewater solids and waste heat, communities can lower their energy costs, helping to save space in landfills and encouraging the recycling of nutrient-rich wastewater solids.

Sludge Belt Dryer from Siemens Water Technologies

In the Sludge Belt Dryer, evaporation takes place when the biosolids come in contact with the heated air. The sludge is uniformly distributed on the entire belt width to cause uniform evaporation. Evaporative capacities are 1,000 to 13,000 pounds (454 to 5,897 kg) of water evaporated per hour, and the system is designed to operate continuously if required. The mechanically dewatered feed material can be handled within a wide range of moisture contents, which in most cases exceed the range of other dryer types. With a heat requirement of approximately 1,441 BTU/lb (less than 800 kcal/kg) of evaporated water, the dryer allows for great heating flexibility. The ability to vary residence times in the drying zone provides a way to fine tune the product moisture to meet final use or disposal requirements. The dryer can also be fitted with a product cooling zone when needed. The Sludge Belt Dryer will be featured at WEFTEC.08 in Booth # 28077, Hall B.
