Wyse Introduces New Virtualization Software for Integrated Voice, Data and Video Delivery via Virtual Clients for Enterprise and Cloud Computing

Wyse Virtualization Software Delivers Better Server Scalability, Broader Peripheral Support, Bi-Directional Audio and VOIP Capabilities in addition to Rich Media and Multi-Display Features for Virtual Desktops

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 19 /- Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, today announced significant updates to the Wyse virtualization software suite. The new additions: TCX USB Virtualizer(TM) 2.0, TCX Multi-display(TM) 1.2, and TCX Rich Sound(TM) 1.0 -- are all designed to enhance the end user experience while reducing the impact on datacenter servers for Wyse thin clients connected to virtual desktop environments from Citrix, VMware, and Microsoft.

"As desktop virtualization and cloud computing continue to gain momentum, Wyse thin clients are setting the standard for end user experience at the desktop," said Jeff McNaught, Chief Marketing Officer for Wyse Technology. "However, this enhanced experience can come at a significant price -- larger datacenters to process the richer data. Wyse saw this trend years ago, and developed collaborative processing architecture (CPA) that intelligently divides the workload between the server and client, reducing the need for larger servers, while delivering the best thin client experience yet. Today's enhancements further assure CIOs and IT administrators that end users can successfully access and run rich cloud-based applications at the highest fidelity and with the greatest experience -- without forcing tons of additional infrastructure."

CPA is built-in to the Wyse virtualization software suite that works with Wyse thin clients and the Citrix(R) ICA(R) and Microsoft(R) RDP protocols to significantly improve user experience. Unlike protocols that replace ICA or RDP, Wyse's approach adds functionality, but shifts the processing workload to the client CPU when appropriate. Competing thin clients with small or no client CPU either can't handle multimedia, or often require a special protocol to deliver it, but typically use the datacenter CPU to render video or sound content. That architectural approach slows performance for all users, and requires the purchase of additional cloud server infrastructure to correct.

The updated products include:

Wyse TCX USB Virtualizer(TM) 2.0 is a simple yet revolutionary software solution that enables the discovery and use of local USB devices plugged into Wyse thin clients directly in a virtual desktop environment. USB Virtualizer 2.0 makes peripherals plugged into the user's thin client appear as though they are connected at the cloud server, so peripherals and applications operate just as they might on a PC. End users are identified as much by peripherals they utilize everyday as they are by the applications they access. Any barriers to peripheral usage with thin clients are now eliminated; no dependencies exist for local drivers. Supported peripherals include an unprecedented range of USB printers, scanners, storage devices, Palm, BlackBerry, Pocket PC handhelds, Webcams and Audio Headsets.

Wyse TCX Multi-display(TM) 1.2 instantly recognizes additional monitors attached to Wyse thin clients. The software provides multiple monitor awareness for virtual desktops and applications over ICA or RDP connections in VDI and terminal services environments using Wyse thin clients. Lack of multi-monitor awareness is particularly troubling in financial services or call centers. Instead of trying to view everything in a single monitor and having to minimize and resize windows, Wyse users can now easily open windows and applications side by side on up to four monitors with the same behavior they get with standard PCs. The end result is increased end user productivity and satisfaction.

Wyse TCX Rich Sound(TM) 1.0 provides rich bi-directional audio capabilities for virtual desktops and applications on RDP connections, enabling deployment of applications capable of receiving and transmitting audio without compromise. Users can now use a USB headset directly attached to the Wyse thin client to input audio into an IP soft phone application running in a Windows XP Pro virtual desktop. This revolutionary technology broadens the reach of VDI deployments by enabling support for users requiring special audio input-output capabilities.

Wyse TCX USB Virtualizer 2.0, TCX Multi-display 1.2, and TCX Rich Sound 1.0 join the recently announced Wyse TCX Multimedia 3.0 and work with supported Citrix, Microsoft and VMware environments. They are available as of December 16, 2008, and are licensed per Wyse thin client device.
