Ventyx Releases First Software Available to Help Utilities Comply with Nuclear Fatigue Rule

eSOMS Personnel Qualifications & Scheduling Solution Ensures NFR Compliance

ATLANTA, Nov. 12 /-- Ventyx(R), the world's largest private software provider to the energy and utility industry, today announced eSOMS Suite Version 3.6, the first commercially available software designed to help utilities comply with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's new Nuclear Fatigue Rule.

Release 3.6 of Ventyx Shift Operations Management System (eSOMS) (http://www1.ventyx.com/esoms/overview.asp ) software includes enhancements to the software's Personnel Qualifications and Scheduling solution that will help utilities comply with the NRC's recently enacted rule (10 CFR 26, Subpart I), or "Nuclear Fatigue Rule (NFR)." The NFR was enacted to manage schedules to avoid fatigue of personnel at commercial nuclear power reactors. All nuclear operators must be in compliance with NFR by October 1, 2009. This new release of eSOMS is the first commercial release of generally available software to manage to the new rules.

"The new NFR presents a significantly expanded scope and complexity of applicable personnel, fatigue metrics, analytics, assessments, waivers, reporting and review requirements," said Ventyx Industry Solutions Executive Matt Lechowicz. "The existing methods and tools used by licensees to manage nuclear worker fatigue are no longer adequate, and a time-keeping only approach is insufficient."

In response, Ventyx joined with a long-standing client, one of the largest nuclear operators in North America, to enhance the eSOMS Personnel Qualifications and Scheduling module to help them meet the stringent new requirements. Lechowicz added, "As a result of this partnership, as well as our unparalleled history and knowledge of the nuclear industry, Ventyx is the first company to release GA software with our forward-looking approach to handling the new NRC requirements, enabling clients to manage their schedules to avoid violations of NRC rules that go into effect next October."

Personnel Qualifications and Scheduling Enhancements

Ventyx eSOMS is the industry's leading operations management software for nuclear generators. Working with its client partner, Ventyx enhanced the eSOMS product's scheduling capabilities to make the solution even more interactive and provide enterprisewide resource-saving interfaces to both in-house and third-party data systems. These enhancements, which are offered as a part of baseline product, include:

-- Expanded analytics including multiple group rules, unit operating status, shift cycle concept (online and outage), work-hour limits, breaks and minimum days off

-- New "What-if" scheduling scenarios allowing hypothetical scheduling changes to be analyzed

-- New compliance management tool links, such as waivers and assessments

-- Expanded notification tool links, including narrative logs and notice of change

-- Expanded reporting capabilities including compliance, schedules, overtime call-out and availability reports that allow supervisors to know the amount of overtime each worker is available for working for that day

-- New third-party interfaces, including timekeeping, corrective action, scheduling and payroll
